any suggestions? have seen many brands at whole foods and at trader joe's. looking for some direction. will mainly use in potato salad type dishes. thanks.

If you like traditional mayo, Veganaise, if you like Miracle Whip, Nayonaise. Trader Joe's also has a house brand of soy mayo that is pretty good.

My favorite is Veganaise, I have to resist the urge to eat it with a spoon. ;)

Bleh - I never liked mayonnaise let alone a vegan version, so I'd recommend mustard as an alternative, if applicable. :)

Organic yellow mustard is good too - YUM!

Yeah? The purple one? I always buy the green one and love it so much I haven't tried the others! I will have to try purple as well. :shy:

I always buy the Veganaise with the blue label. I like Nayonaise too. Anything full of fat is fine by me.

Well I'm not vegan, I'm vegetarian but I try to eat the least milk I can or get local milk. Does Fat free mayo count as vegan since it has no milk in it? Call me stupid, but I know much more about vegetarianism than veganism. :dunce:

Veganaise.

And no, fat free mayo is not vegan. Just check the list of ingredients. One of the main ingredients in mayo is eggs, not dairy.

me either, but i make a mean martha's "all-american potato salad (http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=recipe1944&search=true&resultNo=1)" (minus the egg) and want to sub vegan mayo to see how it works and/or if anyone (omni) can tell.

i like trader joe's organic mustard.

Vegenaise, hands down. You could use some drained, crumbled soft tofu (the water-packed kind) with a little turmeric (to make it yellow) to emulate eggs.

The store I go to finally sells Vegenaise. Mmmm. They had this other stuff, Nasoya but it was pretty nasty.

i haven't tried vegan mayo yet, i think i've tried everything besides tempeh, mayo and icecream (which is cool because it hasn't been two months yet since i went vegetarian), but i'm looking forward to it.

I'm one of the few that prefer nayonaise over veganaise. I never liked mayo that much before & always loved Miracle Whip, so that's probably why.

I thought Veganaise was too oil-ey in texture.
I preferred Nayonnaise, although it can be a bit chalky...

but NOW, my favorite all time vegan mayo is this stuff:

Spectrum Naturals Light Canola Mayo
*made with expeller pressed canola oil
*no hexane extraction
*no preservatives added
*No GMOs
*No hydrogenated fat
*No sugar
*No corn syrup
*No preservatives

Vegan & gluten free.

Ingredients:
Water, expeller pressed canola oil, cornstarch, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, soy protein isolate, xanthan gum, lemon juice concentrate, onion powder, natural vitamin E, natural flavor, oil of mustard, oil of turmeric, oil of paprika.

i looked at my local wfm and they don't carry vegenaise. they do have this one, though, so maybe i'll give it a go. thanks for all the suggestions.

Mayola!. It's British. I haven't tried any of the American brands yet, but I was adviced against Nayonaisse from another customer at Wholefoods once..

I LOVE mayola, I tried the organic plamil one first and it was okay but it just lacked the mayo. taste I expected. But mayola is amazing it's hard to tell the difference between mayola and actual mayonnaise, I'm in love with it ( okay I'm getting a little obsessed here hehe) :) only problem is i've only ever seen it in Asda, which is the one supermarket i never really go to :(
But mayola gets my vote for best vegan mayo of all time :)

Did you look in the refrigerated area for Veganaise???
Its not kept on the shelf in the usual mayo area...

Oh I see. I never tried Trader Joe's organic mustard - I'll definitely look into it the next time I go though.

Let us know how the potato sald came out. I betcha they can't tell the difference - veggie versions usually taste better! :-)

Wildwood Garlic Aoli spread is my fave faux mayo. It can be pricey so if I'm making a salad or recipe that calls for much, I'll usually buy a canola version. On sandwiches though, I'm all about the aoli.
