DreamWorks Pictures has acquired the live action pitch "Non-Human Animal" from writer Christopher Bird for John Williams' Vanguard Films to produce.

Studio paid mid-six figures out of Vanguard's discretionary fund for the pitch about a personal injury lawyer charmed by a sweet-talking activist into becoming a reluctant hero of the animal rights movement during a landmark legal challenge.

Woo hoo! I hope they promote veganism and show some of the cool things we eat and products we use.

Personally, i wouldn't be suprised if this doesn't make a difference in the eyes of any meat eaters. i mean, how many movies like "babe" do people go to see, and then go out for double bacon cheeseburgers afterwards?

Ah. Optimism, meet pessimism.

Sounds interesting. I couldn't read the article (not a member), but I'll keep an eye open for more news.

oh please, do you think every four year old girl who watches babe stops eating meat? hell, i watched babe, cried, and loved it, but that didn't stop me. some might, for a few weeks, but it's the sort of thing most people "grow out of"

No, not *every* four year old, but some (adults too). Concerning the 4 year old though, their dietary choices are generally made by their parents.

Even if it *is* some infinitesimally small percentage of viewers that change their attitudes/habits - wouldn't it be worth the effort?

Oh sure, it'll be nice, but i just had to rain on the parade of everyone who started thinking "wow, finally a mainstream movie that supports animal rights!" i mean, like at fahrenheit 9/11, you'd think that'd change a few minds about president bush, but that was mainly preaching to the choir, i don't know any hardcore conservatives who didn't ignore it, prefering to listen to rush limbaugh call michael moore a dirty liberal communist. i have a feeling this movie will be very similar.

this movie will do for animal rights what erin brokovich did for feminism.

they do sound very similar.

Not only is it "preaching to the quire", there are a lot of middle of the road people going to see Moore's movie as well and its those people that will the election one way or the other.

Also James Cromwell changed his diet from vegetarian to vegan after doing the Babe movie and became heavily involved in anaimal rights.

"And yes, he is an animal rights activist as well. On July 3, 2001, the actor was arrested at an animal rights protest at a Wendy's restaurant.

"I don't regret the protest," Cromwell said at his trial. "I regret animal abuses are still happening." Outside the courthouse, protestors carried signs saying, "Please don't eat Babe for breakfast."

He pleaded no contest, and the judge ordered him to stay out of Wendy's restaurants in the county for a year and suspended a $1,000 fine. "In a just world," Cromwell said afterwards, "factory farmers would have been on trial today."

Im sure there were plenty of other people that were influenced by the movie as well.

another perfect example, you'll be able to count the people whose minds it changes on one hand.

I don't think that's really the point. Every little thing that happens will not "change the world". But the more good things that happen, the larger the cumulative effect will be.

Now, why exactly do you have to do this? It's one thing to hold an opinion. It's another to criticize others for holding a different opinion. Could you take it a little easier in this thread? Thanks.

I meant that to sound sort of joking/sarcastic, and certainly wasn't criticizing anyone. I guess that doesn't always come through on the internet. I was just giving my view on the topic, no offense intended.

Yeah, it comes off as extremely negative, actually. I mean, you make your point negative, even if you're doing it with what you consider to be a joking tone. Just my observation, but no worries. I realize you don't mean any harm, and that's the key, right?

Well, I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't have very high hopes for this movie. It may be a negative view, but it's the way i see it. However, I didn't mean to offend anyone personally. If that was the case for you or anyone else, I apologize.
