Such as Chex , Frosted Cheerios , Cinnamon Toast Crunch , etc...?

I'm turned off by the cereals I see in the natural foods section :-/ . I saw this one called "Gorilla Crunch" , it had this giant gorilla on the box. Looked like a TV show prop.

I know most of the popular cereals contain BHT , and a bunch of other scientific crap. How worried should I feel about eating this?

I just can't seem to part ways with my sugar loaded cereals. Should I take a chance on the cereals with pictures of forests and tree bark on the front? Are they any good? I think I used to like Grapenuts back in the day , for whatever that's worth.

I eat Special K with strawberries dry as a snack.

I go for the least processed yummiest looking cereals (that are free of honey.)

Usually they are the granola/nuts/dried-fruits type of cereals. I really like them, and they're hearty!

When it comes to the pictures on the box, I'd remember two things.

1) Don't let the company's graphic artist's abilities decide for you what kind of cereal you want because one box is snazzier than the other

and 2) I only buy cereals when the picture of the cereal on the front is realistic. If the box is opaque and there is no window to see what it looks like inside, and the picture of the cereal on the front is a cartoon = probably not a good thing.

Well if you are a vegetarian, you should avoid most of the "popular" cereals as they tend to use vitamins sourced from animals. In addition, If you are a person who dosn't want to eat GMO food, stick to the cereals in the natural and organic sections. Peace and Natures Path cereals are the best tasting cereals I have ever had.

I love Kashi's Good Friends, it's one of the best cereals I've ever had, compared to all the kinds I used to eat as a kid, like Golden Grahams, Captain Crunch, Honeycomb...all of them, to me it tastes just as good.

I eat Cheerios or corn flakes sometimes.

Don't be turned off by the pictures on the box-especially not by the gorilla!!! If you want something that compares to your regular, popular cereal, but is from the natural food section, then the enviro kids cereal is definitely the way to go. I suggest trying the peanut butter panda puffs. They taste just like corn pops but with a hint of peanut butter (I imagine that the gorilla munch that scares you probably tastes just like corn pops).

I eat peanut butter bumpers (by mother's)...those are my favorites.

Whenever Puffins go on sale (in any flavor) I eat those.

I let my daughter eat the popular cereals (she likes cinnamon toast crunch)...but lately she's been clamoring for PBB more and more.

I don't like all the fake vitamins they put in regular cereal....by that I mean chemical additives. Like Total for instance...do any of us really NEED a full day's worth of vitamins and minerals in one sitting?

Anyway....those are my top pics.

I eat both popular and regular, organic cereals. I'd prefer to go all organic, but I have so much trouble finding cereals to eat because so many have wheat, soy, and/or nuts. Those that don't still manage to include questionably non-vegan ingredients, so I have to avoid them too.

Gorilla Crunch is actually good. The box looks that way because it's targeted to children.

I was gonna say what Artichoke said. We buy Gorilla Crunch, Koala Crisp, etc. It's the EnviroKids line. And my boys love them. They taste good too. Basically they are made in a fashion similiar to popular cereals, but with organic ingredients and they are vegan. They always have an animal on the front. And then on the back they have stories about how the donations from EnviroKids go to helping those animals.

If you eat Puffins, please save the box tops!! :D See this thread: http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=10741&highlight=puffins

We eat lots and lots of Puffins and other Barbara's cereals. I haven't been in the cereal isle at the conventional grocery store in years.

the way my kids POWER through cold cereal makes buying it completely cost inefficient for my family - especially those fancy, organic, health food cereals. we stick to homecooked oatmeal and homemade granola for the most part. way more economical.

Actually we go through cereal way too fast here also. I got some blueberries at the farmer's market though, so we're gonna make some kind of coffee cake or muffins with them as breakfast sub. :)

In the past I haven't eaten any type of cereal because I'm allergic to cow's milk. I'm kindy iffy about trying soy milk with cereal. I'll never eat hot cereal. I hate it. It looks kinda funny to me.

I'm allergic to milk too, so I've always eaten my cereal dry.

I like it that way! Having it with milk seems really weird to me, actually.

I'm picking up a box of it next time then.

Is there an organic/natural cereal equivalent to Golden Grahams? Now THAT would be righteous.

I don't eat cold cereal very often but admit to a soft spot :wall: for Life cereal......mmmmm :lick:, sometimes if I'm visiting friends I'll eat their Grape Nuts or Honey Nut Cheerios; bad stuff I know :notvegan: but definitely guilty pleasures. :junk: :lick:
