so i went to the 24-hour Jewel near my work tonight, because i get off of work really late (11pm) and the Jewel by my house is closed. i wanted some soymilk to put on breakfast cereal b/c my boyfriend has to get up real early and i want to make sure he is nourished. :)

anyway, in the soymilk aisle, i see this thing that i have never seen before: SoyTreat Organic Kefir Cultured Soymilk. I don't remember the company name that makes it, but it looks intriguing. it is different flavored organic soymilks that have these "kefir cultures" in them. there are 10 different live active cultures in there! they had some tasty looking flavors too: coconut, strawberry, and blueberry were the ones that caught my eye.

i didn't buy any because i only had $3 and wanted something that would taste good on cereal, so i can't review the product yet. but it looks great! not only would it taste good, but it would give you all the supposed health benefits of yogurt without gelatin, caesin, or any milk product! whee! i get paid tomorrow, so i am going to go at my earliest convenience and buy a couple.

has anyone tried these, or has anyone heard of kefir cultures before?

ok, got some today, and its pretty good... its like yogurt, but not quite as thick (so it wouldn't have worked on cereal anyway :)) the coconut kind has a mild flavor, and the strawberry has a little stronger flavor. definitely an excellent yogurt replacement! :) just thick enough to eat with a spoon, but thin enough to drink from a cup.

I like the strawberry one pretty well. I've mixed it with granola and it was yummy.

Yep, Kefir is great! I am making my own kefir drink... I got a starter pack with Kefir culture and kefir maker with an easy-to-follow instruction and a book with info about kefir plus lots of low-carb recipes. It's fun making your own kefir drink. :chef:
