View Full Version : Really really reeeeeally important. Too much soy: BAD!

My friend (Relatively recently) had fifteen tumors removed from her uterus. It seems that she was using to much soy product in her diet, which, since there's not a substantial amount of fat in her body, latched itself onto her uterus in the form of tumors. High processed soy products are not good for the body in large amounts! Especially with women. My friend has recovered through the course of five excruciatingly PAINFUL weeks and wishes for me to warn anyone else that I can about the dangers of processed soy.

not to sound...uncaring...because i really do feel badly for your friend, but i was wondering if you have any links or anything to information that shows more than a correlational link between processed soy products and uterine tumours?

you read a lot of crazy claims on the internet these days, and i like to do my own research before i start giving people dietary and medical advice, so a little something (or somethingS) to peruse about this topic would be of great interest to me.

thanks! and i hope your friend has a speedy recovery.

This subject is pretty controversial these days. There is plenty of research showing that the phytoestrogens found in soy products work in our favor as a weaker type of estrogen, when our bodies are estrogen dominant. But some doctors worry about the fact that they act as estrogens at all. From what I understand, (and what the hell do I know anyway :) ) nobody really knows for sure if phytoestrogens can really help us prevent cancer, or set us up for cancer.
All I know is that a varied diet is good. And I'm going to continue to eat soy products. Soy is not the only food with phytoestrogens, after all.

You know, I am so tired of hearing contridictions when it comes to cancer and food. One day, something is a cancer-fighter, the next day it's the reason you get cancer. I mean, I am so confused right now as to what is going to cure me and what is going to kill me! I guess I'll just eat a little bit of everything and hope for the best!

Everything will eventually be suspected of cancer-giving. I saw screw it. Your not smoking 3 packs a day, so eat your soy.

I'm not trying to prove any one theory right. I am doing exactly what my friend wanted me to do, share it with others.

soy and cows milk may cause certain types of cancer..
..u can get hepatitis (or some weird disease) from badly washed infected fruits and vegetables..
bleh..
..thats only a couple of the ones ive heard most recently..
..but if u avoided every single food said to cause a health problem..
what would u eat?..cardboard?..
..im not really sure where im going with this..
..but i hope it made sense..

yes, but it can be dangerous to spread information that is false, even if your intent is good. i was just wondering if you or your friend had some sources that WE could check out so we could form our own opinions? i'm not asking you to PROVE anything, just provide a source (or two?) for your claims that soy causes uterine tumours. no debate. just politeness and questioning! :)

 I think that's the best method at this point. I keep hearing that soy isn't good for you...and then, that it is.

Having uterine tumors myself, I can tell you that many many more factors go into increased risk of getting them than one food substance you eat/drink.

On a side note, too much of anything is not great for you. Moderation is key.

I agree with Kreeli. I'd like to see the sources that led your friend to this conclusion. It just doesn't make sense to me. Research has shown that chemicals in soybeans (isoflavones) slow the growth of human breast cancer cells. I've also read that soy contains estrogen-like compounds that may actually protect against problems that are triggered by a woman's own estrogen.

Soyfood Isoflavones mg/serving

Mature soybeans, uncooked, 1/2 cup 176
Roasted soybeans, 1/2 cup 167
Soy flour, 1/4 cup 44
Textured soy protein, dry, 1/4 cup 28
Green soybeans, uncooked, 1/2 cup 70
Soy milk, 1 cup 20
Tempeh, uncooked, 4 oz. 60
Tofu, uncooked, 4 oz. 38
Soy isolate, dry, 1 oz. 57
Soy concentrate, dry, 1 oz. 12

More benefits of soy (http://www.healthcastle.com/herb_soy.shtml).

FYI..I've extensively researched natural cures/prevention for tumors and cancer. You friend may want to rethink her conclusion.

I'll stick to my three glasses of soy milk a day thank you.

Soy is tasty, and a heck of a lot better for you than meat. End of story :p

I was just wondering..did your friend's doctors say the soy caused this?
