So what litters do you use now... which ones have you tried that sucked?
I am using sweet wheat now, and its ok... but My boy cat wont use the box (this is post urinary infection problem) so I need a big change, so he wont think litter box = pain anymore. Just want to know your experiences.

Pine litter works really well for me. Well, for the cat.

I don't like the pellet kind because it's hard to scoop.
A cat would probably prefer a mulch sand box.
My cats aren't particular though, so they just get whatever is free.

I've been using Swheat lately, but I think I'll try something else next time. The kitties like the wheat fine, but it sticks to the bottom of the box and clogs the toilet a bit.

We use a litter called Biocatelet, both for the cats and the rats. The cats only have it if they need to be kept indoors for some reason though, otherwise they go outside.
It's in pellet form, made from recycled paper, and clumps when wet. Doesn't smell either, it's good stuff.

I use Swheat Scoop, but it pretty much sucks. I have to find something better.

I use Special Kitty with baking soda. They seem to like it fine. It's clumpable.

OP~maybe you should just get him a totally different box in a different area of the house (with a totallydifferent litter)
we almost exclusively use tidy cats granular.
i like those fancy crystals but they are too expensive. but would use them if i thought it would stop inappropriate urination. they are totally dust free, very clean. this is the most different thing i can think of from the wheat stuff you were using.
you know you could even just put regular dirt in there if you think he would like it.

I used that Yesterday's News stuff before and it smelled and made a huge mess. I suppose every cat is different, and obviously the biodegradable and non-polluting ones are best!

I vote for pine litter, it really really helps with the stink. Yoda may be little, but she makes a big smell

I love Sweat Scoop! It clumps nice & hard. It will stick to the bottom of the box if there isn't enough litter, though. I just make sure I have 3-4 inches of litter, and I'm fine. Even my picky cat seems to like it.

I use the wheat stuff... and I put some veg oil on the litter pan before I pour in the litter, when I scoop everyday stuff doesnt stick, and even when it does it comes off real easy this way.

My hubby says we can use kitty litter for Jake (our hamster). Does anyone use kitty litter for that?

I used to use that too. I know what you mean about the smell!!! I switched to Stop & Shop brand clumping clay litter and that lasts longer with no smell!!! Yay!!! I just wonder if the Stop & Shop brand is tested on animals. I can't use Yesterday's news because it's smells too much and my husband has a fit. Any suggestions??? I would love to use a natural type litter that is not too expensive.

We get the plain ol'Freash Step for my cats. (in fact, I just finished cleaning out all 3 of their boxes @_@ )
In my vast (haha) experience in the kennel, I've found that the Arm & Hammer scoopable sand stuff works best, though. Yesterday's news can be REAL messy, doesn't really mask any odors, and alot of cats just don't know what to do with it!! :surprised:

I don't think Yesterday's News is that stinky. However, I only have one cat, I clean the poop out at least once a day and I completely empty and wash the litter box once every 7 days or so.
I use it because it's better for the environment and it's not as dusty as other kitty litter.

you're not supposed to use regular (clumping) kitty litter for rabbits, so i wouldn't use it for hamsters. some say you shouldn't even use the clumping stuff for cats . . .

My cat usually just goes in the floor next to the litter box and pulls the litter out and on top of her stuff... so I guess it doesn't matter what type I use! :p
