I'm considering using Seventh Generation, but I'd like to know how it works compared to other brands. Are there any others out there that are cruelty free that work well? I've tried the vinegar thing, and it just doesn't cut it. Our winters here are super dry.

Hi Arti! :hi:
Is that a liquid? I think I might have seen it somewhere around town. Now to remember where.... Also, how's the smell? I think 7th Generation smells kind of funky, but it's doable.

Yes, it is a liquid. I don't know how to describe the smell, but it smells fresh ! I really like it a lot.

ETA: Just found out CuddleSoft liquid fabric softners are not vegan.
I use CuddleSoft liquid fabric softner and dryer sheets. Cruelty-free and vegan (with some exceptions) and available at Big Lots and Dollar Tree. I haven't tried Ecover or Seventh Generation or Vinegar so I don't really know how it compares to those brands, but I like it.

I forget. One of the fragrances. I'll email them and find out which one it is that isn't vegan.

FYI...liquid softner makes your clothes more flammable than if you use drying sheets.

I saw that warning on the back of a Downey bottle in the store. They said it makes terry cloth towels more flammable. But the picture on the front of the bottle, has a little girl laying on a towel! Strange!
Ecover really is good. They have a detergent w/ a built in softener, and it's all plant based. I forgot the name. One of my friends has some. I'll try to find out the name and post it on here for you. I know you can get it at Whole Foods.

i really like seventh generation's fabric softener. it definitely works and it smells great (lavender). go here (http://www.seventhgeneration.com/page.asp?id=1112) to print $1-off coupons for a bunch of their products, including the softener. makes it easy to try. the only complaints i have are: the limited availability of their products (currently, i can only find it at whole foods) and the size of the softener (it's fairly small). i've actually switched all of our cleaning and laundry products over to their brand and have been very satisfied.

I use Mrs. Meyers fabric softener and it works and smells wonderful. I also like it because I don't have to use very much for it to actually work, so it saves me money, too.

Well, I picked up a few bottles of 7th Generation with the coupons (thanks again for the link!). I'll see how they work. :)

Glad you didn't buy CuddleSoft. I just got back from vacation and Huish did reply to my email and said their liquid fabric softners are not vegan. The rest of their products are, but not the fabric softners. :( Here's their email:
Dear Kelly,
Thank you for writing to our Consumer Relations Department regarding our products. The only product we produce with an animal derived content is the fabric softener. The softening agent used is from tallow, derived from the meat packing industry. I hope this information is useful, please feel free to contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Pamela Bailey

Subject: vegan products?
Can you tell me which of your products do not contain any animal byproducts? Thank you.

I just wanted to put my review in on the 7th Generation fabric softener. I absolutely love it. It makes everything smell so clean and fresh without being too overbearing on the scent. Plus, it definitely works as well as any conventional brand.
Since it's the only vegan-friendly brand I can find around here, I'm stickin' to it. Not that I mind not having other choices at all. :)
