Eat 5-10*** fruits and vegetables daily! Report back and brag about your healthiness.
Let the games begin!
1 serving =
1 cup raw veggies*
1/2 cup cooked veggies
1 medium piece of fruit
1 cup unsweetened fruit juice**
1 cup vegetable juice**
* Raw salad greens can never count for more then 2 servings. However, you can count each type of green. ie 7 cups of iceberg = 2 servings, but 2 cups of endive, 1 cup iceberg, 2 cups spinach = 5 servings.
** You cannot count more then 2 servings as juice.
*** You cannot count 1 food for more then 3 servings :D

I'll partake in this thread. I bet I'll learn I don't eat as many fruits and veggies as I think I do

does it count if you eat 5-10 servings of one fruit or vegetable?

Great idea Krista! When I wasn't working, I had made myself a checklist based on the food pyramid from Becoming Vegan, and I kept up with how many servings I got of fruits, veggies, protein, calcium, etc. Now that I'm working again, I seem to be living on bread, potatoes, grains & other starches.
So I'll try to increase fruits & veggies, and I'll post here, for accountability. Just not today. :p

i overestimate i think i don't have measuring cups at home, and in recipes i just put as much stuff as i want, or as much as i think is enough, but when eating food i can't say if i ate a cup or two
weird huh ?
it's time to buy measuring cups
i had about a quarter of a melon today , that would be one or two servings ?

I'm in; after my mum buys more groceries. Does it have to be 5 veggies and 5 fruit, or can some days it be all veggies? I'm starting to crave veggies more than fruit...I think fruit gives me a tummy ache if I eat too much; I like watermelon, strawberries and apples best. Spaghetti squash, fried zucchini, salads etc. are my fave veggies...and tomatoes on everything.

Linzey - the idea is that you're supposed to have a mix of fruits and vegetables. You're supposed to have more vegetables then fruits, so all veggies wouldn't be bad. :)

I'm in. I would say on average I do get 5-6 servings of fruits and veggies a day so I'll strive for a couple more.

This is going to be a tough one, even though vegetables are super safe foods for me. Eating, right now, makes me nauseous, and it's painful, especially eating things that are bulky. I don't know if I can make 5-10 servings, but I'll really try for 3.

I'll take the challenge... it might help me remember to eat more veggies. Lately I've been relying too much on grains. Yesterday the only veggies I had was a huge bowl of turnip greens -- today, just a baked potato. :lick:, but not enough veggies...
