Hey hamsters. I've not posted here before, but I have a "athletic" (loosely used) injury question. Today when doing my aerobics tape, one of my knees started making this "popping" sound whenever I put any weight on it (kind of like the sound of popping a bunch of bubble wrap). Last week when doing sprints on the treadmill, I had a couple of times where it felt like it was going to give out from under me.

I have a history of troubles with this knee (sports/moped injuries), but not for about 15 years. I have to make an appt. to see my GP for a physical anyway, but I'm sure that's not going to be for a month or so. There is no pain/swelling (yet), so I'm wondering if I should wait or try to get in sooner. Does anyone has clues as to what thi might be from their own experience? A visit to the bone crusher could really put a dent in my summer fun. :(

Hey Hamsters, Well I ran the 5k on Sat. and I am sad to say that I did worse than I did last year! :wall: Blah! 28 min. almost exactly. I guess running long distance is not helping with my speed...darn! I will have to do speed work...O' but it hurts! :whip:

IamJen, Well, just about everything joint in my body pops at some time or other:) In fact when I do squats my knees pop on just about every squat. I would be concerned about it because I'm asuming this has not happened to you before, and also the feeling of it giving out is not good, but you say no pain? Hmmmm? Does it feel weak? When mine hurt they feel like giving out, but I've never had that feeling of them giving out except for pain. I know you might not want to hear this but it would probably be best to rest it. I would try ice too. It's always better to be careful than to really injure yourself and have to take even more time off. O' and I would check it out with a doc ASAP unless you think it feels better soon. Sorry I can't be of more help, perhaps someone else will be able to.

Sky, Great! Hmmm...now I wish I would have kept track of my running miles this year.

Captain, Awesome run!!

blinkered, Good luck on Tues. I'm sure you'll do great!

Go Hamsters!!!! :vebo:

I played Badmiton for 2 1/2 hrs tonight with my brother, sister, brother's gf, brother's friend, and sister's bf. It must be badmiton day, eh Blinkered!? :)
I also took a walk on the beach with a few people. And I'm still sore from yesterday's workout. Phew.

AFter the rain, I went out and rode 9 more miles for a total of 28 today. YTD = 992.

Slynny, sorry you were disappointed with your 5K time. It's still a great time though! Hey, you could start counting miles midyear. July 1st woud be a good time to start since you didn't get started at the frist of the year.

GO HAMSTERS!

Yeah I reckon it must be a day for badminton although it is so hot here at the moment that it feels like some kind of strange torture to be playing at all! Glad to see that I am not the only one playing badminton :)

Wow I wonder how long it is since I have been to the beach a couple of years at least, oh well I will have to try and get there soon.

I did that damn exercise video, the "easiest" of the three. I'm lucky I lived to tell about it. :( I had to pause it several times to cool down. But it's only the first day. Another hour and I'll probably feel great.

I planned on doing a 30 minute run/walk this morning, but could not get past 15 minutes for anything. I'm not sure what was up with me. Oh well. I got out of bed early, and that's more than I expected of myself :)

IamJen - Do you do any strength training exercises? I know when my knee starts to bother me (I haven't had it checked out yet, but am self-diagnosing chondromalacia patella) I make sure to do my quadriceps strenghtening exercises. The stronger your quads are the more stable they can keep your knee joint. But if you do start to have a lot of pain, do rest the knee and ice it. And have your GP look at it when you go in, but if you don't remember a specific knee injury and aren't having a lot of pain, I don't think you need to worry too much until then.

I can never do exercise videos because I always end up with strong urges to throw things at the TV. More so if the person on the video is really hyper/perky.

'kay so I should post my activities too :) Maybe seeing it in typeface will spur me on.

6/27
biking - 16ish miles
aerobics video 45 minutes
lots of walking

I can definitely associate with the urge to throw things. Once I reach my weight goal, I think my video may meet the working end of a sledgehammer. :)

Haha. I second that! I also don't have enough floor space anywhere in the house near a TV. :p
