First, please don't call this store "Meijers," because the name is "Meijer," singular. :D Pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, DO NOT buy organic fruit from this store. I forgot to get organic garlic at the health food store yesterday and so I had to go to Meijer to get conventional. I saw that they had organic nectarines and peaches. Some of the peaches had mold on them. I found a container of nectarines and peaches that looked okay, got home, and some of the peaches were mushy and rotting.

Further, I have bought kiwi from there before (organic) and half of them were bad. This store sucks as far as organic produce goes. That's probably why it seems so cheap.

Then I saw they had cored pineapple for like $2.50 when I just spent $5.50 on it, but I'm sure there's isn't Fair Trade Certified.

i cannot buy organic produce all of the time, however, i do notice all of their produce tends to be poor quality. and dont you dare go shopping in the late afternoon/early evening--it is all picked over, buggy, moldy and just plain gross looking. pathetic. :wall:

I have good luck with Meijer around here, fruit wise. They're pretty veg-friendly (also less so at my urbanite location). I am growing frustrated with their WalMart-like mentality - gobbling up empty land at a frenetic pace, but they have to compete w/WM. They are the only union-friendly grocery chain in the city, so for now, they are the lesser evils. However, in the summer, my fruit comes from the Farmers' Market! yay! (headed there shortly)
