An Islamic girl at my school said that it was a good cleansing thing to do before, during and after your period. Now im not entirely sure, but she said it completly lowered the intensity of her cramps, grouchyness and just general PMS like feelings.
anyone else have anything to say? i would like to try it, but only if i dont die or if i get a second opinion on it. wouldnt it just be like getting all the toxins out of your body in a week?
im not sure.
et: fix my spelling error in title.

I couldn't do this. I become very hungry around my period. I always thought you were meant to eat more when you had PMS. I know you need extra nutrients around this time, and not just more iron. Why don't you try it out and see how you feel? I'm sure it won't kill you, even though I am of the "eat more" school.

i have a better idea eat chocolate which won't take away the pain but will release wonderful chemicals into your body to make you feel better.
seriously during your period your body gets cravings ignoring those cravings i would image would be harder because your on your period.
instead take primrose oil, sleep lots and eat chocolate the darker the better.
but if anyone has any positive views on this fasting i would be interested in hearng more

I fasted once when I was on my period. I nearly passed out and had to eat. My period makes me feel weak and the loss of blood makes your iron go lower. I would not reccomend it, but maybe for you it wouldn't be that bad. Try it, but don't commit to keep it up if you start not to feel well.

brilliant point you would need to take some sort of iron tablets and drink lots of water, i am nt sure this would be such a good idea? :-/

Maybe you could try it?
Usually I get less hungry...but most people say they get more hungry! I suppose it depends...try it and see!
Eat a lot before you know it's due, so you know you have enough iron!

yeah, i'm not so sure it would be great for blood sugar maintenance.
i'm also of the type that gets way less hungry during my period, but i allow myself to eat whatever i want. usually that means i get to eat lots of yummy vegan treats to keep up my calorie count.

Hmm, I think you'd get sugar from the glycogen stored in your body..

glycogen stores last one day if you're completely fasting.

Fasting for health reason I always have a hard time to swallow. (Fasting for spiritual reasons I can understand, but I'm *very* skeptical of fasting--unless under the direction of a physician--for health.) Unless you eat a lot of junk and rarely eat/drink healthy foods/liquids, your body should have no problems getting rid of toxins on it's own.
I always thought you were supposed to eat normally during your period anyway? Maybe take some extra calcium to help with the cramps and iron if you're known to be anemic. I would avoid excess salt and sugar. The salt can make bloating worse and the sugar can make the mood swings worse.

Metabolism goes up when you're on your period, so fasting is probably a bad idea.
And when exactly would you eat ever if you are fasting before, during, and after?

well meaning like the day before and the day after not all the time.

Yeah, but my period is like 7-8 days long. And it's irregular, so I wouldn't know exactly when to start fasting. I could probably get it within 2-3 days (which leads to some stressful situations sometimes!) So that's like at least 10 days of fasting... no thanks!

Maybe we should conduct a non sciencetific experiment and we all take it in turns to eliminate different food groups from our diet b4 our periods and see how it effects it.
I have been having periods for 10 years and each period is different. I can have one were I pass out/ or puke from the pain to one were I feel next to nothing. There must be something effecting this?

Hi Ladies..
Muslim women are actually PROHIBITED from fasting during their periods. I am a muslim and I know this fact for sure. During the month of Ramadan muslim's fast each day from dawn to dusk... but women are prohibited from fasting during the days when they are bleeding. For one, women need more energy during these days to substitue to all the blood they lose plus to help them fight all the cramps, aches and pains.
Fasting is not only have a spiritual purpose. Fasting detoxicates the body and gives time for the body to heal and rest.
Check this link out http://cinque.getwebspace.com/facts.html . It's from a medical perspective and not a religious. It has info about Vegan diets too!!!

In The Red Tent when the women are having their period they all get together in a tent (it's red) and chat and giggle and eat little cakes. Now that sounds about right.
