Quick question...how old were you when you began to menstruate? Just wondering, as I haven't yet and don't know what the norm is, and want to know when I should start worrying about my health :D

I was just shy of 12. I think if you haven't by 16 you are supposed to talk to your doc.
However, I would have LOVED to have gone an extra four years without my period!! It kinda sucks.

One of my friends got it when she was 10...I got it after I was 13...but some don't get it til later...I think a relative of mine never got it...that's way abnormal though and you should never let that happen....anyways if you are over 16 ask your doctor about it, but otherwise just go with the flow...(no pun intended  )

My very first time I was 10 (almost 11), but after that I didn't start to get it regularly until I was almost 12.

I was 13 the first time I got my period. It hasn't been fun ever since.

I was eleven. I've been having my period for almost half my life now (in October it will be my eleven year anniversary of my period :wow:)

If youre comfortable, ask your mom...its a good indicator of when you'll get yours.

I got mine when I was 11. Eva-bo-beva is right, finding out when your mom got her's is a good indicator. But there are also lots of other factors. If your chest and pubic hair has developed, then it'll come pretty soon. If you're really athletic or very thin or very overweight it could delay it a bit. Also, nutrition could effect it. But it could also just be by chance that you haven't gotten it, some girls just get it later than others.... Don't worry about it and if you have other questions feel free to ask!

i was 11. the age you get your period is more related to your peers than your parents. this is something that changes every generation. every few years or so the average age of menarche gets earlier. for this generation i think the average is 12 years old. for my mother's generation the average was 14-15. i believe my great-greandmother only got hers when she was 17-18.

11, almost 12. Blah. Most inconveniently on a day I was supposed to go for a swimming lesson at school.

I was 11. My best friend freaked out because she thought she'd NEVER get hers, but she did when she was 12.

I was about 12- I know I was one of the first in my year. One friend got hers when she was about 15/16 but she was small for her age. My best friend who had a similar build to me (not small) got her period about 2/3 years after mine. I remember at the time thinking it wasn't fair. I wouldn't worry until you get to about 16 and also it is a good idea to check with your mum when she got hers. And I guess since you are getting to that age- it is worthwhile keeping a check on your iron levels,

just shy of 14. definitely if you are very active or low weight that can delay onset (along with myriad other factors). but everyone is right, by sixteen (which i think you almost are?) you should probably go to a doctor cuz they'll want to check you out for things like PCOS.

When should you start getting regular?

Well, my mom said she got hers around 13 or 14 (said so at the doctor two years ago), so I would be a bit late to follow that cycle, as I'm 2 months away from being 16. My mom did have to get her uterus removed at some point, hopefully I didn't inherit whatever problem that was. Ah well, I have a physical exam coming up anyway, so I'll find out if there's a problem soon enough! Thanks everyone. :)

When should you start getting regular?
i think that varies even more than menstruation age. i was immediately regular but i've heard of some women not being regular until they've had a child.
