Wouldn't you know it - 41 days before I leave for the states and our commissary just got in Amy's Soups (Lentil and Ministrone) :stinkeye:

Normally I make my own soups in bulk and freeze them, but I picked these up to try anyway. I had the lentil tonight - Nice!! :lick:

I paid $1.50 each and the can (it's ready-to-serve) held 1.5 cups of soup (can says 2 one cup portions, but it wasn't). Anyway - it seemed a little steep to me (maybe because I'm cheap) - anyone else buy these? What do you pay?

Oh yes - I found them by accident. They were in the ATKINS food area :furious:
(I just happened to look over and saw them)

i am pretty sure westbrae natural soups are $1.59 at whole foods and i thought they were cheaper than amy's, but i haven't bought any recently, so i don't know.

i used to get the vegetable barley and the no chicken noodle a lot.

I'm fairly certain I pay more thank $1.50 per can, too. I really like the No Chicken Noodle, also.

hmm. having thought about it, i think they are $1.79 at whole foods. that, or $1.89.

I love the no-chicken noodle. I usually only buy them when they're on sale, but regular price is $1.89 a can. The other flavors are good, too, but I can make something similar to those at home. The no-chicken noodle is a must (since I don't know how to duplicate that at home), IMO.

the minestrone comes with an average of 6 beans per can :stinkeye:

Funny timing. Before I logged on here I had the ministone for lunch today, and I noticed the lack of beans too. It did taste good though.

I haven't tried Amy's soups, but I've tried other products in that brand.

I like the low fat alphabet one. It's really good and reminds me of spaghetti O's.

I also like the fact that amy's labels vegan and non- vegan.

no-chicken noodle was pretty good too.

Man, you guys get yours cheap. Around here they're about $3 a can and that's why I've never tried them. :D

The no-chicken one should be called no-no-chicken. I love those little chunks, but there are only ever, like, three of them.

If I cant make my own, these are the next best thing to homemade, IMO

The Butternut Squash is TO DIE FOR!
The Minestrone, and Vegetable Barley are also very yummy.
They are around $1.59 a can here.

So yummy!

wow
i almost bought a can like two nights ago for 2.49 each
i decided it was a tad bit too steep for a small can of soup

when i find them on sale i stock up, i love amys soups
even though i hate them as a company for not veganizing the products that are not vegan due to only honey or only casein

i just discovered the butternut squash soup, and its really good with croutons

They're about $1.50 here too.

My complaint about them is they all pretty much taste the same. The Unchicken noodle, minestrone, alphabet, etc... all have the same underlying like.. strong onion taste? or something. Its just really tedious.
I love the Westbrae bean soups though. They do a great minestrone and their louisiana bean stew (i believe) is delicious!

ooh, yes, i like the westbrae great plains savory bean (?) a lot, and i think the louisiana bean stew was good. haven't tried the minestrone because there is egg white in the pasta. my boyfriend made the mistake of assuming all of their soups would be vegan and not reading ingredients, and bought a can, which is now probably going to stay in its place on the counter for a very long time. :(

We just got them here recently and they're $2.99 a can. So we don't buy them.

Is that $2.99 canadian meatless? (well, it's still over $2 american if it was). Wow! Expensive.

I wish the organic/vegan soups caught on - then there'd be competition and the prices of all would lower. Right now it can only be a treat for me - and I keep a few cans in my desk in case I forget to bring my lunch to work :)

Donate it to a food drive. It'll give people a break from all the cans of creamed corn people put in. Ewww

we were thinking we might try to give it to a homeless person . . . most of the homeless people around here are a little too scary to approach, though. i thought of food drives, but the only food drives i have ever heard of were ones we had at school. i suppose i could try to search for something like that, though.

I just bought a few cans of Amy's soups. How long do I heat the soup in the microwave for? All it says is "HEAT AND SERVE" , followed up with "PLEASE DO NOT OVERCOOK". Ummmmmmm , okay? :brood:

2.5 to 3 minutes. Any type of canned soup I'd say 2 to 3 minutes depending on the microwave.

its $1.99 American here, and I bought like 4-5 different kinds... so far I tried black bean... which was ok... I would add rice next time... and the minestrone, and veg barley, I was very dissatisfied with both of those because they were mostly broth... too much to pay for mostly broth
