school is almost over for kids here in texas. Anyone have any ideas on a good gift to get my son's teacher?

a few ideas:

- a small fruit basket
- something homemade: jam, jellies, BBQ sauce etc
- muffins on a summer tray
- a picture by your child of why she/he liked the teacher
- plastic patio glasses with lemonade mix included
- gift certificate to the local ice cream store (might be inappropriate if you are vegan or teacher is lactose-intolerant
- gift certificate to the local movie store

I got my sons teachers a small candle with a pretty glass jar to put it in. For two teachers I spent a total of 9 or so dollars. I was going to make them cookies or something but I didn't know what they liked so I just went with the candles.

You could buy a cheap frame, or use one you have lying around the house, and have your son decorate it, then frame either a picture of your son or a picture of him and the teacher (if you have one)

I like, well all of AuroraLily's suggestions, especially the one about having your son draw a picture, which you could also frame. (guess I have a thing w/frames, huh?)

Homemade items I think are a great idea. Especially if it's something your son can help with. I'm not sure how old he is, so I don't know what all he can do in the kitchen, but he could always decorate cupcakes/a cake for her.

Your son could even just make her a nice card.

I'm not sure how close you are w/his teacher, but if you know any of her hobbies, you could get her something that would contribute to that. Or even get her supplies she may need for the next school year, and find some way to personalize them.

Hope those suggestions at least help spark an idea!

As a student myself (although in high school now) my family has often come up with gifts that teachers love by making them ourselves. One year we bought little flower pots, put styrofoam in it, put fake grass on top, got a cheap pen and covered the pen in green wire to make a flower stem with a fake flower on top. Stick it in the pot and it looks just like a flower but with a pen inside (not totally useless, like many gifts that teachers get.) Another thing is to make chocolate covered pretzels (ghiradelli--which is vegan--is really good.) Good luck!
