View Full Version : Damiano's vegan pizza

I forgot they have vegan pepperoni, so I ordered my vegan pizza at Damiano's (in Los Angeles, on Fairfax between Merlose Ave. and Beverly Blvd.) with Fresh artichoke, mushroom and garlic, along with (of course!) the Vegan Gourmet Mozzarella from Follow Your Heart.

It was pretty damn good! My wife and I put away a large 16" pizza, and I was still ravenous after eating half (and a beer). Eating good, "cheesy" pizza at 9:45pm really got my metabolism revving.

At any rate, as anyone who's tried the Vegan Gourmet Mozzarella knows, it doesn't turn golden brown, nor does it stretch like regular cheese, but it was still quite yummy, and great fun to order it at a regular pizza joint.

Be forewarned, a pizza ordered like this comes to $20.75 (!), so keep that in mind when adding ingredients.

Oh! You lucky dawg! :lick:

My sister made a vegan pizza with Follow Your Heart Mozerella and soy pepperoni once, but she put lots of yucky vegetabes on it and messed it up.

That pizza sounds so good! You are so lucky to have so many good vegan restaurants where you live. I am so jealous. Although it is probably a good thing I don't live there because I would be fat and broke :p

I hear what you mean, but I wouldn't call myself lucky. There's nothing left to chance. I choose to be here in L.A., and will choose any future homes in the world based in strong part on how veg-friendly they are. :)

If only L.A.'s 60+ veg eateries were focused in the same square area as Manhattan, I'd be very happy! We're too spread out here. :stinkeye:

Man...I've heard so much about Vegan Gourmet cheese but I don't think that they sell it at any stores near me!! Does anyone who lives in New York (not the city) know of any stores that carry it? I'm jealous!!

Monkey, When I lived in Buffalo, NY, Feel Rite carried it. Do you have a Feel Rite store near you? I have tried it like 3 times and have enjoyed it. I don't eat it much now as it is not organic.

Define yucky vegetables.

mushrooms, bellpeppers, yellow squash, other unidentifyables. Blech! I like vegetables, just not on my pizza. Except olives. Olives are ok.

Fresh Fields' Whole Foods probably carries it. Have you checked at happycow.net for health food stores in your area?

No, I haven't! But now that I know about it I definately will. Thanks!

And thanks falafel...I am only like 45 minutes to an hour away from Buffalo and I go up that way almost weekly for dr. appointments so I must live near one but just never knew about it, I'll have to check out where it is and stuff!

Wow, After I read this Post I dragged the husband out of the house and over to Fairfax. It was awfully good. Not cheap, but tasty and they are open crazy late, or early whichever. I can go there whenever everything else is closed. They have nice root beers too although I am not vegan so I still do honey. We polished of the large too.

You sound like my wife, then. :)

Yeah, not cheap. Place is dark, too, eh? Kind of a dive, but it gets an A rating from the Dept. of Health or whatever it is.

We should hit a vegan place in L.A. together sometime. My wife and I are quite partial to Native Foods in Westwood, which probably isn't far from you.

I don't really remember seeing you around here much... Looks like you're new here. Welcome!

my mom always put broccoli, shredded carrots, cauliflower, green and red bell peppers, olives, and tomatos on her pizza. it was very yummy. i could see how yellow squash might turn out a bit mushy though....

I am sort of addicted to Native Foods. I don't cook at all so it is fantastic knowing that I can order anything on the menu. My Husband try not to go there more than twice a month (because of money), but we end up there at least once a week. So I will not turn down an invitation. Thanks for the welcome.

I was going to say, it can get expensive, but man is it worth it.

Perhaps we can aim for something after Memorial Day?
