There's been a lot of anti-Rumsfeld coverage and rhetoric since yesterday. I think he's going to be the administration's fall guy on this.

He shouldn't have to be asked.
Whether he was responsible or not - he should voluntarily resign.

I have never understood this attitude.
In a large organization, some things are outside of your control. I have never seen the wisdom of falling upon your own sword just to keep a few weak-minded folks happy.
Now, if he was responsible, it is a different matter.

Agreed, on both counts. I think that female commanding general is the one whose head should be on a platter. She was there at the site, and if she didn't know what was going on then she was derelict. How in the heck is Rumsfeld to be blamed for this? Just because he's second in command? Becasue you realistically can't get the top guy?

Isn't the problem with Rumsfeld that he's known about it for two months but didn't inform the president? Not necessarily the pictures, but that there was an investigation into possible abuse of prisoners?

sort of... they were sent reports in february but apparently did little to try to remedy the situations before they got out of hand.

The female officer has been charged now:

Even if Rumsfeld didn't know about the abuse, but learned about it from the folks at the Post, his attempt to make the story go away doesn't exactly win points with this gal.
Also, last night on the "news" officials from the Red Cross stated that they had raised concerns with officials in Iraq as far back as December of 2003.
