I read this quote, and I thought it was really interesting.

I think it's sad. :( The quote and the fact that the birds are suffering from a flu outbreak.

Wow, at least it is something. Here (the US) there would never be any official admission that there would be anything to "regret." It would never occur to anyone. You can't view farm animals as inanimate objects here for our use and still regret their killings or give thanks for their contribution. I'm not saying all facets of japanese culture are like this, but I'm impressed with that one piece of it.
