Before I blow $30 + shipping on one of these (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/delicious-choices/index.html), can anyone tell me if they've tasted them?

I had some amazing tofu cheesecake at Native Foods in LA, and ever since then I've been craving it constantly!

I'm not capable of making one myself, I think, I'm pretty klutzy in the kitchen, so I was thinking about ordering one for a special occasion in the future.

Opinions?

You can blow the $30 + shipping. They are delicious.
I've tried the carob and the strawberry cakes.

I had a tofu cheese cake att the chicago diner and it tasted like mashed tofu. nothing amazing. I havent had tofutti cream cheese but I would think if that consistency and sourness cant be replicated, we might as well forget cheesecake. I'd rather have a few delectable vegan deserts than something thats a sad reminder of a desert vegan ingredients cant produce. In fact if I cant bake one just right (I do lover baking and cooking) and had a major craving for cheesecake, I would just eat a slice. Life is too short to be perfect or miserable for. Not going back to eating meat or anything.. just fulfilling a craving is natural. I was at ghirardelli with husband and he ordered a ice cream sundae, I was literally sure I would eat all of it. Couldnt, the fatty milk was so stinky, I barely had a slice. Not sure about cheesecake though. I'l have to experiement with tofutti

I highly recommend Delicious Choices. My husband and I get one for each other's birthdays every year.

My favorite is the Chocolate Sampler or the regular Sampler. Yum!

I love Tofutti cream cheese--there hasn't been a Tofutti product I've tried that I didn't love! I'm not even vegan (though mildly lactose intolerant) and prefer the taste of it to the dairy versions.

I have had tofu cheezecake before at a vegan restaurant. I don't know what the maker of it was, but it was delicious. I'd want to try to make it myself before I spent over $30 for shipping, but that's because I love to cook.

I ordered one for my sister (an omnivore), and she said she loved it. Unfortunately, I don't like cheesecake at all, so I wouldn't even try it.

making a vegan cheesecake is so easy! if you can make a regular cake, you can make a vegan cheesecake.

here's a very basic recipe:

3 tubs tofutti better than cream cheese (and no, it's not yucky! *looks at star lass as if she's nuts* :p)
2 cups medium-firm tofu (smooth, silken-style is best)
1 - 1 1/2 cups sugar (depending on how sweet you want it)
1/4 cup cornstarch or tapioca starch
3 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp vegetable oil (NOT olive oil)
2 cups sliced, fresh or frozen fruit (optional)

Blend all ingredients in your food processor or blender until smooth, scraping down the sides a few times. Stir in the fruit, if desired, by hand. Pour into a prepared crust, and bake at 350 F for about one hour, until the top is just golden. It will seem a bit wiggly in the center, still, but don't worry, it will firm up when chilled. Cool on your counter until you can touch the pan without gloves, then place in your fridge and chill completely. Top with a fruit compote if desired.

Basic crust:

3 cups crushed graham crackers or oatmeal cookie crumbs
1/2 cup walnut crumbs (optional)
1/3 cup melted Earth Balance

Mix all three ingredients together. Pat into the bottom of a 9" springform pan. Bake at 350 F for ten minutes, then remove, cool, and top with "cheesecake" filling.

you can play around with this recipe quite a lot as long as you keep the basic ingredients the same. i've made vegan cheesecake a half dozen times since 'better than cream cheese' became available in my area and i've never had a failure. they all taste magnificent!

if you really want to blow $30 plus shipping on a cheesecake, send me the money and i'll make you one, god! they are making a killing on those if that's what they're charging. i can whip one up for $15 CDN (which is like $10 US). :p

Thanks for the recipe, Kreeli. I'm gonna have to splurge and make that one of these days.

it's seriously too easy. i'm not even that careful with measuring the ingredients. it's much easier than a lot of regular cake recipes.

Kreeli, I'd love to make your recipe, I'm just such a bad cook! ^^;;

I'm still working up the nerve to try making your trifle. ^^;;

The Delicious Choices cheesecakes are unbelievable! My mouth is watering just thinking about them. But, the company does not ship in the warmer weather months from what I remember. (Unless they changed the policy from a few years ago)

I haven't tried Delicious Choices, but this thread reminded me that I made two of Kreeli's Mango Cheesecakes (last June) for a large family gathering. Went over very well. I'll be making them for this summer's gathering as well, as requested. Just wanted to say thanks! I feel so :chef:.

The Tofutti cream cheese is GOOD!!!! :p

I had an amazingly wonderful slice of cream cheese at the only vegan restaurant in St. Louis a couple of weeks ago. It had a bit of a marzipan taste. I may have to try kreeli's recipe with some almond paste added. :lick:

I made a Tofutti cheesecake once, and I thought it was really good, until my husband said it tsated like baby formula, and after that that's what it tasted like to me.

Bryanna Clark Grogan has a great recipe for cheesecake without Tofutti in it. It is REALLY realistic.

Philadelphia, i loved it, light and refreshing. I bought some tofutti cream cheese, tried a small bit, and binned the tub immediately. Tastes too fake for me, strange after-taste.
