Eww! :(
I usually buy online from Vegan Essentials, unless I get lucky and find a vegan one at my health food store. Avalon has a vitamin C one that's vegan, and the Merry Hempster's vegan on that you mentioned. Those are the only two that I usually see in stores around here.

Most of the chapsticks in health food stores have beeswax in them, unfortunately. Be careful when buying the Merry Hempster's to see "vegan" on the front, because they also carry non-vegan chapsticks.

I think I have used the Avalon one before. It was in a big orange tube. Other than that I got some recently at Bath and Body Works but it dried my lips out so bad that I won't even use it now.

I swear by Merry Hempsters (bf too ;) ), but I've also use some random cocoa butter stick from Walgreens with good success.

I use Azida. http://www.azida.com/webcart/store.htm
They use no bee or petroleum and have SPF 15. I don't know if you can get them in stores, but there's a toll free number on their site you can call to find out.

the health food store in my town makes their own chapsticks, and half of them are vegan, luckily. Chapstick is a pain for me.
I play my trumpet for at least on hour every day and boy oh boy do I have to pamper my lips. One day without chapstick and I am screwed for about a month (usually it is until I have a few days off from school). I have made my own chapstick out of aloe, vitamin e oil and olive oil that works well also.

I use All Around The World hemp balm in spearmint, and I order it from veganessentials. Maybe you'll see it at a HFS around you? It's the only vegan balm I have any experience with and I swear by it, I love it.
Sadly, I am without it today as I left my purse at home by mistake. :(

the jason one is the definate winner and it looked unused too;) all their products are vegan and organic and the lip balm has SPF 20. this stuff works, its so perfect! i highly reccomend this
also i think most vegetable oils would work in a pinch too;)

research everything you need to know about lip balm...
http://www.lipmedic.com
they have a list of ingredients definitions
http://www.lipmedic.com/ingredients.htm
and a great selection of natural & organic lip balm and an even bigger selection of vegal brands. listed are brands like Chicken Poop (not vegan) Azida (mentioned above), and Pussy Pucker Pots. Very interesting!
