I just found this at the supermarket! I went to their website and it said it's only available in Western Canada - I live in Newfoundland, which is as far from "western" as you can get. So I have no idea how they got it, but I'm not complaining. They had mozzerella and nacho. Will report back after I try it. :)

Anyway, just wanted to let other Canadians know. I have been wanting to try this for the longest time.

i know! yay! i saw it at my health food store a few weeks ago and gasped really loud and dramatically which made people look at me funny since i was alone lol

but yeah, i got some and it's really actually good, it doesn't taste like feet or plastic and it melts
but my HFS sells it for almost $5 a package and it doesn't last that long. i had mine in the fridge open for i guess a little over a week and it was gone pink

now quick! get some cheese-free perogies, boil them and then fry them with tvp, onion, mushrooms, spagetti sauce and vegan gourmet. pizza perogies

Almost 5$? I paid 5.99! I was too excited to care, though.

I tried the nacho one melted over a burrito for dinner. It was good, but oh my is it spicy! I'm not supposed to eat spicy foods, but I just had to try both.

I made a wonderful Hawaiian pizza tonight with the mozzerella. Homemade crust and sauce, Yves veggie ham, pineapple, peppers, onion, green onion, mushrooms and cheese. It melted beautifully and even browned like "real" pizza cheese.

At $5.99 a block this definitely will not be a regular menu item, but it's nice to have it available. I'm still kind of in shock, I NEVER thought I would see this stuff! It is amazing how fast the natural foods sections at the supermarkets here are expanding.

it doesn't taste like feet or plastic

that's quite the endorsement! sign me up! ;)

seriously, though - I've never tried the stuff but have heard nothing but raves about VG. That's awesome it's becoming more widely available!!

oh please let it come to Ottawa....

Since we haven't found an acceptable alternative, we shred and freeze cheese... could that work for the VG?

yay! when you say "below" 1st ave, do you mean north or south of it? (hastings is north of there).

thanks for that, artichoke! i'm pretty familliar with the stores on "the drive", but there are several in a three block stretch. normally i wouldn't mind just doing a trot in and out of them to see who's carrying what, but it's raining pretty hard today and i'll have my 2 year old with me!

ah, well, such is life in beautiful vancouver. :)

Barrie's still like, 8 hours away or something.... :-/

I mean, how hard should it be to get it in the capital city of a country! C'mon!

DRIVE ORGANICS carries it. I'm not sure if the others do.

ottawa's not that far from Barrie is it?
but anyway if Stratford has it... Stratford... then i'm sure you'll be able to find it in Ottawa.

i'm serious about the feet/plastic. all fake cheeses i've tried have tasted like one or the other, this one actually tastes like cheese (well the moz one does anyway, it's the only one i tried so far)

I knew that it was that far away for a trip, but at least it's in Ontario and that isn't too far away distributorship-wise.

It's in Ottawa! It's in Ottawa!
Tonight I saw the nacho cheese variety in the grocery store across the street from where I'm moving to in three weeks. I talked to the lady who runs the Natural Value section, and she made an order for the mozarella variety for me, and it will be in next week! :D I am so happy... one more little step closer to an animal product-free diet.

In toronto it ranges from $4.50 to $6.00; I've seen all their available flavors on sale, though I havent bought any. (Even as an omni I wouldn't buy cheese: to expensive for what it is)

there is a store locator on their website, if thats any help? here: http://www.followyourheart.com/storelocator.php

if it doesn't help (it missed LOADS of the stores near me in ontario that sell it), you could also email them and ask who the distributors are in your area: http://www.followyourheart.com/contactus.php
