But to Eliza's credit, she recommends veggie burgers. Personally, I like veggie burgers more than soy burgers, but I like them both.

Actually, she kind of sums up my feelings about veggie burgers. I don't like the ones that try to taste like meat (but then I never liked real hamburgers either), but I do like the grainy ones that make no attempt to taste like meat. She didn't include the Dr. (forget the name) kind I get at Trader Joe's. They're vegan and I like those.

I want to say, Dr. Bruegger's? Or is that something else.
I'll third the motion. I hate "meaty" burgers. Yuck. But I love veggie burgers. It's a whole new flavor thing going on.

Anyone like Amy's vegan burgers?

I've fed hamburger style veggie burgers to many omnis and they've liked them. My picky omni boyfriend loves boca burgers. When we have burgers for dinner, my mom eats veggie burgers with me because she's on a diet and they are lower in fat and calories. Personally I prefer the "meaty" soy kind as the grain based burgers often have chunks of mushrooms, which I can't stand. I've had an awesome grain/nut based burger that didn't have mushrooms but for some reason most of them do.

I love the Amy's Texas Burger because it has a "barbecuey" (my own little made up word, sorry) taste. My omni bf likes them too!
ETA: I like Boca Vegan Originals, too.
Oh, and I saw that Morningstar has a vegan burger now! I haven't tried it, though. I actually don't eat veggieburgers or soyburgers that often.

I like Amy's California burgers because they go well with avocado. ;)
But I can't stand Boca burgers or Garden Vegan... yucky.
..although, I do tend to like faux chicken patties. Maybe I just never liked burgers period? I *have* been eating Gardenburgers long before I seriously thought about going vegetarian.

"Picking the best vegan soy burger is like picking the best way to get your arm mangled in a corn thresher."
Oh come on now. They are not THAT bad. Well, the Whole Foods 365 brand vegan patties are pretty nasty.
I like the taste of the Boca. I also like Amy's vegan burgers.

Those veggie burgers from Trader Joe's are Dr. Pregger's.
I like the Amy's California burger too. It used to be the only variety I'd buy. It's too bad the writer of the article didn't try the Flame-grilled Gardenburger (it's vegan). It tastes surprisingly hamburger-like if that's your thing, especially with a slice of Galaxy Food's American style Vegan Slices, pickle, mustard, and BBQ sauce.
There are so many veggie and soy burgers out there, the type that anyone seems to like has become a hugely personal thing. People can get very defensive and vocal about their favorites.

I also like the Gardenburger Griller, but it really is nothing like a hamburger. I rarely ate hamburgers, even as an omni, but some days I get a major craving for a big, thick, juicy burger and there isn't anything in the vegan relm that comes close. I usually have a chili dog instead and be happy that some omni junk food is very well represented in the veg world.

The definition of "hamburger" is pretty broad too - I wonder if that's part of why there's such disagreement about what's the most "meatlike". I haven't found anything that tastes like the BK burgers I used to eat when I worked there, but when I first went veg (and could remember what meat tasted like) I ate Boca burgers because they tasted *exactly* like homemade hamburgers (made from hamburger).

I'm not a fan of the Boca burgers. I've never eaten meat, so I don't know what it's "supposed" to tase like, I just know that I don't particularly care for it.
My favorite "patty" is Morningstar's Black Bean patty. It's nice and spicy, a little different from other patties. It tastes a lot like the black bean patties that Chili's restaurants carry.
Second favorite is Gardenburger's "original" patty.
