Need help...I live in a small town and have no money so I shop at Wal-Mart a lot. Please do not turn this thread into an anti- wal-mart diatribe. I know who they are and what they do. I also know that I cannot afford a ten or twelve dollar bottle of shampoo.
so...
What brands of hair products are vegan? I need a shampoo and conditioner suggestion.
What brands of make-up are vegan?
What brands of lotions and face washes are vegan? nailpolishes?
Remember that this stuff needs to be found in a super wal-mart.
:help:

The only things I know of that Wal-Mart carries that's definitely vegan (at least where I live) is Tom's of Maine mouthwash & toothpaste and Personna razors for shaving.

There's a recent thread about Jane Cosmetics (http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=17004). They sell those at Wal-Mart here.

You also might check the library or the web for recipes to make your own stuff. You should be able to find the ingredients for most stuff at Wal-Mart or your drug store. Good luck! :D

I shop at Wal Mart a lot too, as it's the main store in my town, and I'm not rich. For shampoo, conditioner, and hair spray, I use Herbal Essences; it's vegan and not animal tested, though it is distributed by Clairol. I don't really wear make up, but I know a lot of Jane's line is vegan. I still haven't found a face wash or lotion though, unfortunately.

Wow. Everyone has good advice on shampoos/conditioners and makeup, but I have no clue about the nail polish, lotions, and face washes. Could you buy some from a cruelty-free company online? They might run about $6-9 each, though. I know many vegan companies sell nail polish, and I really like Jason Cosmetics for face wash and moisturizer. Tom's of Maine is the best for toothpaste.

A Target just opened here, so I'll have to look for this. Does it have a certain name or is it the generic brand for Target?

I use a lot of revlon products, they are all not tested on animals, and normally don't have any animal ingredients, and their nail polish remover doesn't have gelatin!

As for nail polish, I believe that Jane's nail polish is vegan. You could write to the company and ask.

The online suggestion is a good option (since you already know Walmart is evil ;) )

MotherNature.com and Drugstore.com have items at pretty reasonable prices (can get good shampoo for say $5). Drugstore.com's "Natural Store": http://www.drugstore.com/templates/browse/default.asp?catid=47206&trx=GFI-0-ROTABS&trxp1=47206&trxp4=47490

Also, if you have Albertson's or RiteAid near you, they usually carry some cruelty free items.

some "regular brand" suggestions:
Naturistics, Bonne Bell and Revlon are all non-animal tested. The majority of their items aren't vegan, but you can do some label-reading (or if you choose to buy the non-vegan, it's a bit better than the animal tested brands, IMO)

Several of Citre Shine's products are vegan as well as Aussie Products. Neither companies test on animals.

My best suggestion: make a trip to Whole Foods or someplace similar and stock up. The shampoo and conditioner I use is Whole Foods Brand - all vegan, non-animal tested and $1.99 a bottle - can't beat that!

Where are you located?

I am from New Port Richey FL near Tampa (about 30-45 minutes) Is there a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's in Tampa FL?

Amethyst - Here (http://www.wholefoods.com/stores/list_FL.html)'s a list of all the Whole Foods locations in Florida. And according to the Trader Joe's (http://www.traderjoes.com) website, there are no Trader Joe's stores in Florida.

I accidentally posted this on the wrong thread...so let's try again :)

There is also a chain of stores in your area called Ansley's that is fairly reasonable - been there on vacation.
