I tried this and like it a lot! It has fewer calories (80 cal/tablespoon as opposed to 100) and a nice, spreadable texture. It also has less sodium, which I have had to get used to, but I think that actually makes it taste more like butter.

And it's organic, which is a plus! Where I live, it costs about 50 cents more than regular EB.

Oooh, I saw this at the store last weekend. I didn't notice that it has less sodium and fewer calories! I'm going to have to try it next time we shop.

Mmmm, sounds good! I will have to look for it. Is it vegan?

What is Earth Balance made of?

Yes it is vegan :)

Earth Balance is made of an expeller-pressed oil blend mostly, plus some other stuff...all-natural. No weird chemicals or hydrogenation.

It's the best ever. I use it for everything, and it's great as a spread, for sauteeing, in baked goods, etc. It's basically just margarine, without the crap.

I love Earth Balance--except for the non-spreadability part. I'll have to try some the next time I need more margarine.

Just a note, Earth Balance is great for baking, but leave the whipped variety for spredding. It has less calories and sodium per serving because it has more air in it, and that extra air can really affect your results when baking.

It seems like SIGNIFICANTLY less sodium, more than would be accounted for by the extra air. It also has somewhat different ingredients....

I used it half and half with the regular EB in a pound cake I was making (because I ran out of the other EB) and it turned out great, but I'm not sure what would have happened if it had been all whipped. On the container it says it's OK for baking, but of course they would say that.

So can't the original EB be spread easily on toast or anything?

The original spreads fine. If you have a cold refrigerator then it might be a bit hard at first, but EB softens very quickly as it warms up. You just need to wait a little bit and then it's fine. I never have a problem with it, but maybe some of you have colder fridges.

I spread EB all the time. Awesome on bagels or toast (or waffles or pancakes)!

I really want to try the whipped Earth Balance because I have the hardest time spreading the regular stuff...unfortunately, the regular stuff is just so much easier to get because I can get it at the grocery store whereas I can only get the whipped kind at an out of the way HFS.

My Whole Foods has stopped carrying Earth Balance. Now all they have is Soy Garden. I think the reason they stopped carrying it is because no one was buying it, but it's pretty expensive, not to mention I've been trying to cut out most of the fats in my diet :(

I must try the whipped stuff.. It would be better for my agave-margerine. :)
