View Full Version : Deodorant Stones

I really like the heck out of my deodorant stone. It's simply a block of mineral salts that make your skin's surface pH unhospitable to bacteria. One application keeps you nice and fresh for over 24 hours. I honestly never thought it would work, but it's really cool have both a complete absence of body odor, and an absense of perfumes and pore-clogging chemical ooze.
You can buy them at natural grocery stores and coops, or online at Pangea Vegan Products. Be confident of your underarms, or anywhere else that you might want scent-free for a date!

I LOVE my crystal deodorant. I didn't expect it to work either, but it definitely does!!

I've had mixed results with my deoderant stone. Some days I'm fresh as a daisy, other days I'm thinking "What stinks? Oh wait, that's me." I've found I have better results when I use it in conjunction with a couple drops of tea tree oil.
It works really well on stinky feet though.

do the crystals stop you from sweating at all? i have been hesitant to try deodorants that have no antiperspirant as i could not begin to tolerate feeling all icky sweaty most of the time.!!!

I was trying to decide between the crystal and the Kiss My Face active ingredient deoderant the other day and unfortunatly I chose the KMF. It does not work at all! Next time I am definitly getting the crystal.

Where I live I have a choice of Tom's of Maine and the Crystal Rock. I've been using Tom's for a while so maybe I'll try out the rock.

I have TWO rocks and they work so well! I didn't expect they would. They don't completely stop sweating, but they have stopped it better than the other anti-perspirants I've ever used do. And most of the time there's no smell at all.

That's odd that it has anti-perspirant effects for you. Perhaps it's just a coincidence, because it shouldn't. One of the strengths of the product is that it doesn't stop your sweat -- which is a natural purging mechanism for your body. It's bad to prevent sweat, because it both cools the body, and cleanses your body of pollutants.

I used to use these and was very satisfied with the results. I quit when someone pointed out to me that they have just as much aluminum chlorhydrate as regular anti perspirent. I was (am) avoiding aluminum at the time so I quit. Sorry about all the bad spelling.

Mine both have little symbols on them saying they don't have that aluminum stuff.
Maybe the sweat just isn't as noticeable? I dunno, I have found that don't get as many sweat stains anyway. :p Maybe I just sweat.... differently. :)

That is good to know meatless I'll have to look into them again. I used to wonder if I sweat less because I was not worried about smell. As soon as I started to worry (you know that feeling when you suddenly realize that you forgot to give your pits a dap?) then come the rivulets of wet. :-/

Yeah, it's a win-win situation. You don't smell bad, so you don't get nervous about it and sweat. Perhaps that's why you don't sweat as much, meatless?
It's kind of cool to be able to smell perfectly neutral, yet not smell like a chemical. The actual smell of honest-to-crap sweat is pretty neutral. Just smells like... wet. Or something.

Yeah the worst is when your deoderant/anit-perspirant doesn't seem to blend well with your natural sweat... yuck.
Kamila, definitely take another look. As I said, both of mine advertise they don't have it. I imagine some do and some don't. And another good thing about them is they last forever! Much less landfill... actually, none. It says on the container that it is 100% recyclable! :)

My mom had an old stone (probably at least five years old, sitting on a shelf; she didn't like it and never threw it out), and it had the aluminum in it and was labeled "Antiperspirant." I checked around in my area and was unable to find one that had the aluminum in it, so they may have discontinued that product. My stone is aluminum free, and I really love it. Works great, lasts a LONG time, cruelty-free. Can't get much better than that!

I LOVE my stone! My last one has lasted over a year, so in addition to the other benefits, it's much cheaper!
I hadn't thought about using it on the feet--do you rub it on the soles of your feet?

Yup! I make sure to do extra in the toe area, because that tends to be the sweatiest area.

Thanks, Jess! I'm going to try that.

Yah, put it between the toes and on the soles. But between the toes especially. It's sort of strange how well it works for me. I mean, I go to a local farm sanctuary for 4-5 hours every Saturday, yet I never have had any odorificness.

I haven't had much luck with mine. It was my mother's but she didn't like it so she gave it to me, but it doesn't seem to mask the smell much. Perhaps I'm just a stinky girl.

Do you eat dairy? People tend to think it's the meat that makes the body odor, but from spending many hours in a co-op full of lacto-ovos that abstain from showering, let me tell you: it's the dairy. Milk products are like a breeding ground the likes of a petri dish when it comes to promoting micro-bug growth.
When the Americans first arrived in Japan, the Japanese called them "butter people" because the smell of butter from their pores was so distinct to the Japanese, who had no notable bovine livestock industry. Different cultures tend to have different smells, to some degree, mostly based on diet.
So yeah, if you're a vegan, this post doesn't probably apply to you. Either way, it's just a topic I find interesting, so thanks for providing a forum for me to disseminate some info I've looked into. Maybe you're just a stinky girl. :) But honestly, when they say "you are what you eat," it applies dually to bodily scent and taste.
Peace and colorful foliage,

I just got one a couple days ago and I love it! I can't believe how good it works. Yesterday I worked out and I was outside in the sun with my son for hours and at the end of the day I smelled fine.

Mine's called "Naturally Fresh Deoderant Crystal"

Yeah, and it's aluminum-free. Make sure the stone you get is aluminum-free. Though the health community isn't yet settled on whether aluminum chlorhydrate is safe, it's pretty easy to avoid it just in case. :)
