I would switch 100% to the stone, too. It's not an anti-perspirant, but that's okay. It's not like you'll smell. If you get big pits, well...

I just run a little water over mine. I do prefer to towel off first, because if you're too wet, it just slides all over. I like it only a little damp.

Now, as to applying the stone, it's important that you do it right! I think it best to apply it upon exiting a shower with armpits still wet. Keep running the stone back and forth under the armpit and make sure it's applied well all over the place. One or two swipes, as one would normally do with a conventional deodorant, is not going to cut it! I shower infrequently, so I rarely have the option of applying after a shower. I usually dip the deodorant stone under the faucet and then apply every morning and I smell next-to-never. I like a bit of scent so I usually put a couple drops of an essential oil under my arms.

I love my deodorant stone and only had a problem the first few days several years ago when I didn't know to apply it for a longer time than I did an anti-perspirant.

i've been using a stone for several years now and i find that it *only* works when i keep rubbing it until my armpits are dry. otherwise, i start getting stinky throughout the day. i can't swipe it a few times (few being 10 for me) and leave my pits wet, it just doesn't work. noone else i've talked to that uses the stone does this though, so i dont know, how many "swipes" do you usually make, mikie?

my deodorant stone has lasted for 6 months and still going strong, i love these things, i wonder how long it can go for!?
I had mine for over a year. I think it might have lasted for 5 if I hadn't dropped it

I just read through this thread, and while this isn't something that bothers me the deoderant stones do contain aluminum. At least, the ones I have seen contain aluminum sulfate (alum). This is precisely the form of aluminum that was in drinking water supplies in Ontario and was shown to be correlated with alzheimers. I do not believe a correlation between aluminum chlorohydrate (the antiperspirent) and alzheimers has been demonstrated, so that is possibly safer with respect to this risk.

I've always wanted to try those stones, but I am so afraid to. I am naturally a very sweaty person, and if I use anything but the one specific kind of deodorant I've been using then I smell. Even if I stay with the same brand but go to a solid instead of a semi solid like I use now, I still have problems. So naturally I am very hesitant to be smelly. The people I know who have tried it are usually people who don't sweat a ton anyway. Have any excessively sweaty smelly people used this with good results?

My rock says that there is no "Aluminum Chlorohydrate" and in the ingredients it lists "Ammonium Alum."

I'd estimate that I swipe for 15 seconds under each arm.

Ammonium alum is the ammonium double sulfate of aluminum, IOW there is aluminum in your product.

Damn. Oh well, I was getting disenchanted with mine anyway.

What is IOW an acronym for? Is Ammonium Alum any better or worse than the one you mentioned?

IOW = In Other Words

Mine is just mineral salts.

Mine is just mineral salts.

The minerals are likely ammonium, sulphur and aluminum. "mineral salts" is an accurate description of ammonium alum.

Brownie: Aren't parabens the breast cancer causing substance? Most commercial deoderants don't have those anymore, I'm surprised the natural ones do. I would pick alzheimers given this choice though, since the paraben breast cancer link is way more solid than the aluminum alzheimers link.

why does everything cause something
isn't anything safe
I get so frustrated

To reiterate, I'm utterly unconvinced that aluminum causes alzheimers. If you believe everything that is written about the dangers of things then yes, everything causes something.
