i have dry hands. i mean really really dry hands. so dry that they crack and bleed and cause me lots of anguish. i've always been prone to dry skin, plus i work in food service so i am constantly washing my hands all day.

can anyone recommend the best vegan super heavy duty moisturizer? i have started using kiss my face vitamin a&e and it isn't as strong as i need. but i don't want to spend a bunch of money on another lotion until i can get some good recommendations.

thanks!

I am a teacher working with toddlers, so I know what you mean about washing your hands (probably 40-50 "washings" a day plus quick rinses).

I really like the Nature's Gate line. I use the "original" formula and it works well (my biggest problem is remembering to use it!) It's pretty thick and feels creamy. They have an extra moisturizing one that one of my friends likes (blue label), but I had a reaction to one of the ingredients, so I stuck with the original.

I also used to use an olive oil variety from Kiss My Face, but I haven't seen it around these parts lately. It's a bit thinner, but works pretty well too.

I use a lotion from J/a/s/o/n cosmetics! It is the most amazing lotion I've ever used. I only wish I could find somewhere to buy a BIG bottle of this stuff. I bought it from Whole Foods for 3.99, and it has lasted a long time. I buy the Rosewater and Glycerine one, and it smells so good. It doesn't leave your hands too greasy. I highly recommend it :)

I like Nature's Gate tea tree oil moisturizer for extra-dry skin. It works great!

I use Trader Joe's cream (they have lotion too but I think the cream is thicker), in the pump bottle. It works really well, and it's cheap, too. I think a bottle is only like $3.

My option is also heavy duty and greasy. Organic vegetable shortening (the spectrum brand has worked for me). It heals some pretty tough stuff and you don't have to use it every day.

For REALLY dry hands: Cow Utter Cream (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=86741&catid=10394&trx=GFI-0-BMSM&trxp1=10394&trxp2=86741&trxp3=1&trxp4=2&btrx=BUY-GFI-0-BMSM) - some of these products have beeswax. This one doesn't appear to have any animalstuffs in it.

I have the same problem and I've found Arbonne's hand cream and Origins' Like a Glove hand cream to be really good stuff. Both are super-moisturizing without the grease. I think of the two the Arbonne variety is superior, although it is a bit harder to get a hold of (you need to find an Arbonne rep, they're like Avon and Mary Kay that way). But they're both vegan.

I love the smell and feel of my hands after using "Burt's Bees Carrot Hand Lotion" - yummy, organic, and non-sticky or greasy. Absorbs quickly...only thing is price. $16 Canadian for a small bottle isn't exactly cheap.

I'm not sure if this is vegan but it's cruelty free. Body Shops Hemp handlotion. A bit pricey, but lasts a loooong time and it's super moisturizing. actually hang on and I'll check the ingredients. Umm it includes Glycerin, Beeswax and Lanolin those aren't vegan ingredients are they...damn

Aveda hand relief is awesome but pricey.

I second that, on both counts. It works great, smells great, and is great at terrorizing my wallet. ^^;;

Straight cocoa butter is awesome for dry skin, though it is greasy and takes a while to soak in. But it smells heavenly...

I'll add one more suggestion to the list- Filthy Rich moisturizer from www.kissmyface.com . I use it to keep my feet nice & soft. It's very rich & smells great.
