Vegans - Male/Female?

I've been having an argument with my uber-conservatrive, NRA-member friend. He claims that 99% of vegans are either female or gay guys. (I have no problem with that, btw) So, I decided why not go here and do a poll rom my age group.

Generally speaking, both straight and lesbian females tend to be more compassionate. However, I'd say there's a difference with most guys.

Clickman - You might want to start a thread in a non-teen forum to get more results. There aren't too many teens here, and some adults mistakenly post in the teen forum :)

I don't know about the whole gay male part but from what I have noticed is that more vegetarians and vegans are female.

Yes me too. But maybe guys who are vegan are more compassionate so they are less into the acting all macho thing. Which is a very good thing ;)

I know a few male vegetarians, but most of them eat that way because of religious reasons (Hindu I believe). The other guy is a vegetarian for ethical reasons, which is cool. All of these guys are straight as far as I know, but I don't really know any other vegans, which is kind of a drag. This being said, I have met a great deal more female vegetarians.

I've only ever met vegetarian male Adults (Friends of my parents etc) No male veg teenagers! But then again I've only met about 4 female teenager vegetarians, which isn't that much really..


This being said, I have met a great deal more female vegetarians.
Oh, and this I assume this is a good thing! :p





There also seem to be a lot of gay and bisexual people on these forums. I dunno if that's anything to do with vegetarianism, or maybe it's just nowaday's society, more acceptable and all that... :think:

You didn't have an answer field for "Male: ??????" so I guess that's not all that good for me. I ticked the gay box anyway, since I'm not really a bona fide hetero.

generally speaking, most vegetarians tend to be women. I think that it's something like 65% of vegetarians are women, or something like that. With vegans, the differenc eis less, nad I think it tends to be more 50:50, or at least i think so. I relaly have no idea. We'd really need to look at studies to decide.

As for veg*nism and sexuality, politically, vegetarianism is on the left side of the swing, which is where tolerance for non-heterosexuality and all that stuff comes in, so I guess that may explain why male vegetarianism is a sign of "gayness". Not that it matters if someone is gay. What matters is that some dolts do think it matters if you're gay.

However, most of the male vegetarians I've encountered happen to be heteros.

i think bisexuality/homosexuality have something to do with vegetarianism, i mean i dont mean to be stereotyping or whatever, but females tend to be alot more compassionate than males, and males that are feminine would also have alot of compassion..? I have met alot of lesbian/bi vegans, one straight male vegan and NO male veggies...i dont know...weird, eh? Why dont you have a female : bisexual/gay option on the poll? i would have clicked that one.

vegetarianism is percieved to be a female thing, and i guess that non-heterosexual men are generally less worried about being percieved as feminine than their heterosexual counterparts, so that might have something to do with it.

Generally that does have the exact opposite effect on alot of people. They think you're really wierd because you're a vegan guy.

i have nothing against veg*n/gay guys, it's just that makes less understanding veggie guys for the veggie girls :(

Vegan Male? Right here! Even though I've only been Vegan for 4 months ( 8 months total; 4 months being vegetarian). I'm straight by the way. Yeah I have to agree that females are the ones who become vegetarians/vegans. So far I think I'm the only vegan/vegetarian at school too! Gee...isn't that unique :sweat: . I just hate it when my peers find out that I'm Vegan because they ask so many questions and look at me with such degrading eyes. :whack: <--punishment they shall recieve from me :evil: (just kidding)
