my bff has horible parents. she always invites me over for "sleep overs" but i cant go. her parents dont let me take my own food and they refurse to cook vegan! the say they " dont know how to" but i have given them a veg. cookbook and have ofered to show them how to cook some of the easy to make dinners! my mother doesnt allow people to sleep at our house! how can i get them to understand that im vegan and to stop saying " if your staying at our house ur gonna eat meat or starve"! im vegan for my health and the fact that killing animals is totally wrong!

Eat before you go over to your friends place and take food in your bag...luna bars, baby carrots and celery, mixed nuts, crackers...surely they wont go through your bag just to make sure theres no food and they cant shove meat down your throat. goodluck

That's horrible - I can't believe they would let you starve! Why don't you ask if you have have something vegan they *do* have? Like a peanut butter sandwich or plain pasta or a fruit salad? (as boring as that might be). Or why don't you offer to cook a meal for the whole fmaily while your over there (though I'm guessing they wouldn't touch it :S )

They sound like pretty mean people, whenver i sleep over at my friends house her parents are usually never there, and although her and her parents dont understnad my veganism they do try and acomodate me.
What i usually do is eat before i go, mainly because i can never garrentee that i can eat there, and also i hate to inconvience people, eat something filling like pasta that will keep you going, that way if you cant eat there, there's no real problem with being hungry.
The other thing i do when going to sleep over is take food with me, though i dont do this in a " i can't eat your food so i bring my own" way, i bring it as a sort of gift, i usually bake something like cookies or a cake or something, that we can share, that way you have something yummy and vegan you can eat and you can share it with your friend and her family, as a kind of thank you for having me type thing, also take some dried fruit or some other kind of small snack with you in case of middle of the night hunger. The hardest thing i find when sleeping over at my firends though is breckfast, i usually end up with dry toast and orange juice, but you could always take some mini cartons of soy milk with you to have on cerial, i dont see how they can object to you bringing your own food.
Anyway hope it all works out for you, though imo the best thing to do if her parents are that mean about it, is refuse to go and sleep over, maybe then your friend might sort her parents out.

i'm sorry you're having such a difficult experience with your friend's parents, my b/f is a vegetarian so they are pretty accomidating. How about you suggest you all go out to eat, and get your friend to suggest a resturant, so it doesnt look like you are. While this wouldnt work every time, it would give you at least a few lower stress sleep overs.

I'm sorry that you're having such a difficult time. I hope it can get better. Sorry i can't give any advice, becaus eI really am not the kind of person who gives good advice, but hopefully, your boyfriend's parents will melloe out after a while. (Has your boyfriend tried talking to them?)
Oh, you didn't say how old you are. That can bear a lot of relevance when giving out advice.

Yea i thought she meant Boyfriend, then i realised that Bff meant friend ( best friend forever or something like that) All those hours of watching 'as told by ginger' finally paid off - i really love that show it should win an award or something :)
