Well our 9th grade is having a prom and a bunch of the girls are going together in one group and then going out to eat afterwards, only thing is that I'm worried that they won't be too accepting or understanding about it...I'm also afraid that they will think I'm weird :worried:
I'm going to go with them no matter what but its just like a 2 way intersection, I might end up having a horrible night or I might end up having a great time...I just don't want my lifestyle choices to affect that

Help me!!!

Almost every restaurant has at least one veggie-friendly meal on the menu; I don't think I've ever been to one that doesn't. If not, they can always at least make you a garden salad or some pasta and veggies or something like that. Just try not to make a big deal out of it (for example, don't get into a huge discussion with the waiter about the ingredients in their linguini).

Try not to worry so much about what your friends think, because at worst they'll make tease you for a couple minutes and then move on to talk about something else, especially since it's right after prom and you'll have lots to talk about! Or they could be really interested in being veggie, which is a really good thing. So don't worry about it. You'll have a great time! :)

Just order something that you will be able to eat, and don't feel that you have to bring up your veg*ism or give anyone an explanation if you don't feel comfortable. Good luck :D

I think that they'll notice if I don't have any meat on my plate :/ I'll talk to my friend about it so she'll know..thanks for the help.

Just try to get something like a salad, and if you really don't want to tell them, then just say that you arn't to hungry. You can eat some snacks at the prom, and then you really will be full. They probally won't mind, they might ask you that anoying question of why, but what dose that matter? Just tell them the answer in the shortest form you can.

Sometimes things like potato chips, onion rings, and french fries are vegan and they look like completely normal "teen food". Maybe you can forget about nutrition for that night and munch on fried bits of potato, without the need to tell anyone about vegetarianism.

However, when I told my friends about being vegan, they were really interested, not disgusted. I did get a few weird looks, but the overall impression was not bad.

If you find out what restaurant you are going to ahead of time, you can call and find out what vegan options they have. That way you can just order your meal without having to quiz the waiter. Have fun at the dance. :)

In my experiences no one will realize you're a vegetarian unless you tell them... my friends had no idea i was vegan for MONTHS! And i eat lunch with them every day!

One day I said something about not eating meat, then they figured it out. heh..

another thing... if they DO find out, and ask why, just explain that you do not discuss vegetarianism over meals, and leave it at that. I do that all the time to get out of an interrogation. :D
