hi,
just read an article in the paper about solae, the soy product manufactured by dupont. it is in a lot of products--8th continent, some gardenburgers, mori-nu tofu, etc., and the article addressed how the company is really expanding its advertising to cater to the soy craze. i was upset to see that a lot of the soy products i eat were made by a chemical company. does anyone know anything about this? can i assume it is gmo? i looked on the web but didn't find much info about it. sorry if this topic has already been brought up!

Here is a list of soy brands that contain solae soy protein: http://www.solaeliving.com/soyproteinproducts/index.html

I don't know much about Solae, and nothing seems out of place from their website (except for that DUPONT name....) Hopefully someone will post here and give us all the dirty details :)

Okay...I don't know if this applies to everything containing Solae... Everthing that I have seen a breakdown of ingredients (including specific vitamins) containing Solae soy also contains D3 (animal derived) instead of D2 (from either vegetables or yeast). It really bothers me...especially since Gardenburger still claims that they "believe in using 100% natural ingredients in all of our products." How can they claim such a thing when the soy protein they've started using is made in conjunction with a chemical company?

edit: sorry for bringing up an older topic, but I found this while investigating the sudden appearance of Gardenburger products containing Solae at my local store.

Thanks for bumping this.

I think it's just coincidence though that some products containing Solae also contain D3. I just checked all the solae products in my freezer and I haven't seen this to be the case except for 8th Continent milk.

I think it's great that DuPont is helping boost the soy market.

i emailed solae maybe 2 weeks ago. they replied stating they offer their customers a choice of organic/non organic and GMO/NON GMO soy.

i think its retarded to buy a veggie burger from the worlds largest chemical corporation. this makes me really uncomfortable.

if they want to make me a jacket that defies gravity and i dont have to hang it up thats cool and i think they made teflon. im down with teflon. but actual FOOD made by dupont is creepy and wrong.

i guess im more disappointed with gardenburger more than solae. and you know THEY are using the GMO soy unless the package states otherwise.

im going to avoid solae and gardenburger to the best of my ability.

just checked the link somebody posted above and i see smart dogs are on there. thats what i had for dinner. (at least its non gmo) i blame VB for this directly because in another forum somebody posted that they wrap them in pillsbury crescent rolls. it sounded so tempting i had to try it.

I would think Tofu Pups would be better for that application.

Tofu Pups are made by lightlife foods (the same people that make the world's best veg bacon).

That list has introduced a few foods that I think I'll be trying to avoid from now on.
