Well I do because:

1. The majority of our so-called teachers aren't interested in teaching at all. They are only here to gain money or to ruin our lives. They may not repeat the lesson they teach for you again even if you kindly request it. They might even hand out quizzes or tests on the exact same day they teach the lesson just to make sure you pay full attention in class, which isn't fun or rewarding at all.

2. Grades and report cards. They don't really mean anything at all besides being a method that teachers can use to control us. If you get bad grades on a report card such as a D or F-, better watch out! Your parents can possess anger resembling that of the Incredible Hulk.

3. Tests and Quizzes. Why do we need them? They only test how much crap you can cram into your head, not teach you anything about life. If score pretty high on them, then good for you. If you flunked them, it'll have a major effect on your grade.

4. Standardized Tests. Don't take them lightly at all. They are the most scariest, demeaning, haunting forms of work on the face of the Earth. You need to score pretty big on most of them to graduate from high school.

5. Homework. It's mostly confusing and stressful if the teacher didn't give notes related to the lesson he/she teaches.

6. You need a "teacher's" permission to leave the classroom even though it's for urgent reasons such as a needed visit to the bathroom, illness, etc.

7. Bullies. They're might not be alot of people in school who like you for you. They could even make fun of people who are overweight(extremely fat) or who like Harry Potter or some other reasons. Please, choose your real friends wisely.

8. Stupid rules such as no eating or drinking in class, gotta arrive to class on time or else you have to walk a frikkin mile to get a tardy pass(3 tardy passes can usually mean a detention for you), unfair dress codes, etc.

9. Not enough exciting lunch choices in school

Does anyone else hate it? If so, post reasons why. I'll post other reasons later on. School's only good for making new friends and helping you get away from strict parenting.

I wouldn't say I "hated" school.

There's aspects I like, and aspects I don't.

I just can't wait until I can go out into the "real world" and actually start my life.
Without someone telling me when I can talk etc.

I also agree. Grades annoy me.

But yeah I guess I just have to stick it out till at least the end of this year! It's not that bad really. Just depends on if you let people push you around or not!

Well I left school a few years ago. But yes, I hated it. I'd even make myself ill to avoid going in. I was badly bullied at my school but the teachers where idiots who said I was over sensitive. Yeeeah.. Over sensitive... Being pushed down the stairs resulting in a broken foot is just me being over sensitive... Whatever.
In the end I fell into clincal depression and I went from one of the top students in my class to one of the bottom. :wall:

I left school in July last year and I completely hated it when I was there,

There was far too much pressure, they all wanted A's and A*s, whats wrong with a C?
I also thourght there were to many people in classes, I didn't get to have my say enough of the time.

I'm at college now and its great, theres an average of 10 people on the course and I feel like part of the group now, whereas at school I was the 'weird one who never spoke''. Lol.

School definitly keeps you away from the real world and in an environment where you don't have to make any major decisions or have any big responsibilites. That can be a good thing though :|

i always feel like such a geek saying this, but i actually do really enjoy school. though in reading the reasons listed for not liking school, i can understand why it would be an unenjoyable experience. i think i lucked out as far as schools go. i don't understand the people at my school who complain about how awful our school is when compared to many other schools, we have a pretty sweet deal. i mean, the teachers actually seem to care, for the most part. even in my most cynical times, i could at least see that. and amazingly, the bullying at my school really isn't all *that* bad most of the time. heh, i'm from vermont, we're all a bunch of hippies (especially the teachers)! :D

I like learning and stuff... I don't mind school, but a lot of the students are horrible... complete jerks. For example, I like Trig class, but many people are mean to the teacher (She has a son in our class).

I just don't like all of the gossip and cliques, but I guess you'd get that whether in school or not. I do like school though, I don't take it too seriously yet. Some teachers can be really big a**holes, that can really make school suck. :whip:

I have to say i have always hated school, from the very first day when i was 4 years old, and high school was even worse.

I just couldnt take being told what to do and what to learn, i've always been fairly inderpendant in my learning and being made to sit there for 6 hours and learn something that wasnt worth learning anyway bored me, it still does.

By the time i was 14 i barely went to school and my parents and school just acepted it. I truly hated school it was like pure torture, i felt like i was in prision i cant stand being told what to do or what to wear and i was always in trouble for speaking out about it. I did manged to stay enrolled in school, though i rarely turned up, till the end and i got fairly reasonable results, though by not being in school i learnt way more thna i would have done in school and i am so glad i rarely went, i did miss out on a lot of social things but seeing as i hated most of the people anyway it doesnt bother me.

I'm now in college and although i still hate it in many ways mainly because of rules and being told what to learn, i like it more because i have some inderpendance and i am kind of learning what i want seeing as i picked the subjects , plus no uniform, and i am on all the student councils so i get to speak out without getting in trouble. Anyway my advice is quit school as soon as you possilby can, you learn way more out of it, if i ever had children i would never let them goto school, i look at people now who always went to school and got good exam results etc. and i realise how lucky i am, it's just a plot to get people to waste their lives.

From the first day of kindergarten, and even somewhat now in college, I've never had a true liking for school. I LOVE learning, and trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can about everything, but I hate doing it in a structured environment. Of course, now in College, things are SO much better than in HS. But I think you should really take advantage of your time there, and learn as much as you can. Unfortunately, I was so depressed in high school much of what I learned flied out the window as soon as I left class. It'll be over before you know it.

honestly the only thing i don't like about school is gym but hey this is my last year of it so after that school will be FINE. lol. But i'm really looking forword to college just for the fact of getting out of Ohio and being on my own for once in my life time. But I don't like being called a "dyke" and crap like that but hey you'll have that anywhere and "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and so I'm the stongest person around I think.

Eh, school is alright. School policies get me really fed up...for instance we have a really f*cked up attendance policy in which you can lose credits with enough unexcused absences. This doesn't just apply to cutting class, which I don't do, but if a parent doesn't excuse you from school in time, credit can easily be lost. The school is really unorganized with such a policy. I kept getting cut slips for a class I didn't even take and then I had to correct it in MY free time. :juggle: I have enough to take care of already, that doesn't entail correcting someone else's mistake. the thing is, stuff like that has happened to almost everyone I know.

Also, school for me and my sister especially, can be a stressful social situation. The system concentrates so much on being "well-rounded" and to participate, but what about kids like my sister who have social anxiety? High school is just really really impersonal. For the most part though, school's ok--I love seeing my friends and sometimes, I get turned on to something really great (but that usually just happens in English.)

However, Dinosaur man, I caught something in your post that I disagree with (besides the totally-and-completely-hating-school thing.) I really don't think that the goal of teachers is to make our lives miserable. Every once in a while, perhaps, there will be some vengeful soul but seriously, i don't think all of your teachers are like that. I mean, what a sad life, making idealistic young people sad and angry and discouraged about life. Teachers generally look at school as the breeding ground for ambition, why would they try to destroy that? I think the main problem with teachers is that they're not really into it. They're tired thinkers. Maybe they don't really know how to be an effective teacher. the bottom-line is, I really don't think that your teachers are out to get you. That's just silly. Maybe they even oppose the system as much as you do. Try looking at them as people, not tools. :)

I hate school with a passion except for my german class, my german teacher, my riends, lunch, maybe art class andsometimes science. I actullay like to learn but I hate the people at my school with the exception of a few and I hate all the pressure and the rules.

I don't think school is so bad. I mean, I can tolerate it, and I get into ruts where I feel like I just can't take it, but I've learned to take it day-by-day, week by week. Like on Tuesdays, usually, I'm like "Oh man, I really don't want to come to school." But I just tell myself to only get through this week and it'll be fine. Which it usually is.

I guess I'm kind of lucky, all my teachers are pretty decent and the kids at school aren't too bad. Everyone has their groups of friends but it really seems like people are fine with you as long as you don't bother them.

Okay, the whole 'if you're late you have to go get a late pass' thing...personally, just my opinion, if you're late it's your fault and you should deal with the consequences. Like if you just waste time talking with friends in the hall while you could be on time to class - I think a "punishment" is fair.

Not too much more of the schoool year left, though! :bobo:

I can't stand school. I bring home "A's" and am in the top 10%, but I hate it. I think that the school systems desperately need to be rethought.

I go to school at 7 and from then on until 3:10 I am doing what teacher want me to do. I learn what the states wants me to, I do what the teachers do. After 3:10 I go home and do all the homework that they assign. Where is the time to actually have a life? I am so ansy to be done with school that I do good in it and take hard classes. Most of my friends don't understand my motives. My teachers never would assume that I hate their classes, usually dislike them and don't understand their methods of teaching. Half of the things I have to learn I know I won't need to know later on in life. I don't see how knowing all the metaphors in "Night" will help me ten years on down the road when I am a marine biologist.

I like learning and want to learn most of the classes I am in, but can't stand it. I hate the way schools prioritize things. I think the biggest job the assistant principal has is roaming the hallways making sure no girls are revealing gasp, THEIR SHOULDERS!! Or, dun dun dun, their midrift. I do not see how shoulders create distractions. If it is hot, let us be comfortable.

I hate how my life has to revolve around what state standards say. Granted, I must take a lot of the blame for taking advanced classes which require more work, but there is a point where we should get to have our own time. Right now I could be out surfing with my dad, or rock climbing with my brother, but instead I need to go write a story on Greek life.

More reasons I hate school:

10. I heard a rumor by my guitar teacher Mr. Kellner saying that the law might change the high school schedule might change during the start of this April or next year so that students can take all 7 classes each ****ing day of each ****ing week. How exhausting is that?

11. You can never sleep in class without getting in trouble

12. You can't yell at the grown-ups working at school at all, but they have the right to yell at us? How unfair.

13. It makes learning seem like a chore rather than a hobbie

14. It's all work, no fun at all.

15. You can't be absent for more than 3 days or else you'll get in trouble even if you were ill(I mean something like catching the flu).

Later, I gotta go watch the Simpsons now.

I didn't enjoy school much at all last year, but it's much better this year. Overall there are good and bad points, but at the moment I'm not finding it that bad :)

I love school. I've met 95% of my friends through it, and my art and social studies teachers this year are awesome. I'd rather be at school rather than home, honestly.

Except in my science class. My teacher knows that he (and the videos he shows) is really boring so he doesnt complain if we sleep. I love his class, sleeping is great.

Yelling at teachers, thats great fun. I love fighting with my teachers although it usually doesn't build up to yelling.

I actually semi-enjoy school. Other than a few classes (which I manage to sit through by passing notes, doodling, talking, or doing other work), its actually somewhat interesting.

I think a lot of school does depend on what the teacher is like. One of my teachers I have 1st and 4th and he is the best teacher I have ever had. He is funny and makes classes interesting. Granted I have him for Marine Biology and CEDAR (which isn't a traditional class), and those classes are just plain old fun, but he adds something more to it.

His is so high up on seniority that he can not be fired. He is not afraid to bend the rules a litte or to get introuble. He is one of those teachers that actually is there if you need to talk to him about a problem your are having with someone. If all teachers were like that I don't think anyone would hate school. Even people doing horrible in his classes like him.

School wasn't much of a good place for me. I've finished with it, but I was pretty much your average gifted kid. A little screwed in the head, but eager to learn and I felt constrained being in a class and i felt like the whole class was going slowly. I really didn't like that.

I've read some posts about montessori schools, and they sound like a brilliant idea. If i had kids, montessori would be the only way I'd want them taught. (I'm not planning on having kids though) I pretty much know that public school is crap for teaching and that homeschooling is a bad idea as it has a tendency to make kids anti-social. the sound of montessori schools sounds brilliant.

As for sleeping, I'll admit to falling asleep in class. I fell asleep during a lecture. I've fallen asleep and then woken up to have everyone staring at me! that was funny! The teacher was a little frustrated, but she saw the funny side.

I think that the problem with schools at the moment is the emphasis on grading. How you are graded, and how they test you so damn much. I mean, kids as young as 7 are taking exams!!! Bloody hell!!! That's not good.

So to be honest, i think school is important. I don't like the idea of homeschooling, as there are certain things you gain from school. I don't liek schools the way they are as you just learn what's on the curriculum, and if you find it all easy, you just have to go as slow as everyone else, unless you're extremely gifted.

That said, I miss the social side of school. I miss seeing all my friends daily. I see them all weekly, and it's great to see them, but I miss the whole experience of seeing my friends on a day to day basis. And my group of friends were (and still are) like family. Now i'm no longer at school, I miss them. I even miss doing essays over lunch time because i forgot to do them beforehand. On some essays, i could get A's like this!

It's funny, you go through school being told their the best days of your life, and you think "What a pile of crap!" and you get out of school and you think "School days really are the best days of your life!" (Well, there are obvious downsides to school, but it's definitely fun in some ways!)

I love school. I have little trouble with it and I like the learning and challenges and keeping busy, plus my weekdays of school are much more relaxing than my weekends at work.

All of my teachers are at least okay, most are good. My English teacher is absolutely amazing - she has taught us so much.

I believe your repsonsible for your own grades, they help you to see how you measure up, and a high grade is a good reward for when you've worked hard.

For the permission bit, you need to deal with authority all through your life. Better learn how you fit in now before you go to work and have a boss.

Australian schools do not have cafeterias, so I've always taken my own lunch. As a strict vegetarian, I do not eat stuff from the canteen but there is a shopping mall and various fast food outlets within a 1 minute walk of my highschool.

But I do agree with test, bullies and homework :)

School would be awesome if:

I *did* my homework and didn't have to worry about it.
The other kids didn't talk to me.
The teachers didn't ask me questions.
We never *ever* had to do public speaking in any way shape or form, no matter how disguised.

Then it would be fabulous!

OK, guys...
So school is hard, no question about it. Its annoying, its long, its boring, I'm a senior, I'm tired of it, I want to graduate....
BUT, it could be worse. I think the working world could be a lot more unpleasant, especially if we don't go to school and get a degree and find something we enjoy doing in one way or another.....so I look at school as a necessary thing, and try to make the best of it.

I wouldn't say I hate school, but I wouldn't say I love it either. It's just... school. Unfortunately I happen to be one of those kids who gets really good grades. I used to skip doing my homework sometimes and I got Bs and B+'s in most classes. In 7th grade math I had an A on tests and an F in homework. Then this year I decided that I would do all my work and try as hard as I could to get good grades. It worked, and I've gotten all A's, and some A+'s, but it's really not as great as it seemed. Everyone always thinks of you as "the smart kid", which is really annoying. I'm just like everyone else. And my teacher told me that he tried giving me every kind of test to see when I'd mess up. Now I feel like if I do mess up, it's a much bigger deal because everyone is way more critical of you once you're a smart kid. So i'm stuck doing hours of homework and trying to do as well as I possibly can.

And the moral of this story is, even though everyone's jealous of the smart kid's grades, being the smart kid kind of sucks. Sure I can get into a good college, but life's more fun as a B student.

If your teacher said "Go toilet and grab some munchies, when you've had a chant to your mates we'll do some work, only if you're feeling like it" the classrooms would be empty and you'll get into a habbit of lazyness.

Try living on the streets for a while. Then try working in a factory or warehouse where you can't get adequate protection from the enviroment. You're earning next to nothing. You can't write a letter to complain because you're illiterate, you can't get a better job because you're unskilled. Education arms you against life.

I have to say I strongly disagree with both theese comments.

In regards to the first comment, you'd actually find that if you gave kids the responsibilty to learn on their own and walk in and out of class freely you'd probably find they'd do just fine. In college at the momment this is how we work, we stop for breaks whenever our tutors feel like they want to and people walk in and out freely to get snacks goto the bathroom answer their phones etc. and you find the class functions really well in fact most say they find it easier to learn this way, and i believe that if i was given this kind of freedom in high school for one thing i'd have gone and i would have learnt a lot more too. people skip classes, yes, but because they want to learn they bother to catch up on what they missed, and take full responsibilty for their own learning and it actually works, not only are results higher but the pupils are happier which is the most important thing in my opinion.

As for the second comment i totally agree that education arms you agaist life but education does NOT come from school. I cant think of one thing i learnt in school that will help me within my life, everything useful i know i learnt by myself, i learnt to read by myself, okay i couldnt read until i was nearly 10 but i still taught myself, i learnt maths by myself i learnt useful skills like being able to use a computer and progam and design webpages myself, and imo i will do better in life becuase i dont rely on school to tell me what to learn. Once you get out of full time education how are you going to learn? you cant rely on people to tell you everything, you have to find it out for yourself and experience it and from my experience school never teaches you that. School is just a clever way of making children follow rules and stop them thinking inderpendantly, we're all progaramed to think that we have to goto school and univercity because we'll get nowhere in life if we dont, which is a total myth, yes it may be harder but it's possible, you can learn out of school actually the most intelligent person i know ( besides myself of course :D) never went to school untill she was 17, she was "home educated" which actually meant that her and her siblings played toghether all day, they never actually sat down and learnt in a school like fashion, and not only did she manage to get 4 A levels at grade A she's also way more mature and intelligent in other respects than most people her age.

So to sum up, school is not the only way to make it in life, it's actually not really a useful part of life at all, do what you want, follow your hearts and live life how you want, dont let school dictate what you do with your life.
