AAAHHHHH!!!! i hope these radical cheerleaders aren't the girls at school who give head on weekends and wear their scraps of fabric (they call them skirts) around school and are daddy's little princesses who get brand new cute cars on their 16th birthday and wear Abercrombie and Fitch head-to-toe and prance around school with their boy-toys (they call them boyfriends) and make everyone else feel insignificant and ugly?
if not, that's okay too.

Instead of cheering for sports teams, they cheer for social causes, correct?
the last I heard of them, they were protesting the war in Iraq, so they are basically and protest group.
VERY COOL that you want to join them, Rebelgirl, but sorry, I cannot help!

Ohhhhh, okay. Heh, that's a pretty cool idea. Do they still dress up and wave pom poms and everything?

yeah, they are a protest group, mainly girls, and they have pom poms and lead the crowds in cheers and stuff. Like they were out at capitol hill will "queer positive" chants and such. looks so fun to me. my favorite cheer of theirs is
GALS SAY NO TO NAIR!
if the goddess woulda had your legs be bare
she wouldnta put hair down there!
we love our armpit hair!
say NO TO NAIR
they are like a sorta feminist group i suppose. but they also do cheers that are about date rape, the media version of pretty, and boy positive cheers. fun isnt it?
No, radical cheerleaders do not have "boy toys"and usually dont wear A & F, and most of the time they are veggies/vegans, and its awesome.

Hey now watch the stereotyping... I do know that some cheerleaders fit your description but in no way do they all! Little known fact: I was a cheerleader for five years. And I can definitely say that I was a fully clothed, hard-working, independent, single, average-looking, department-store-clothing-wearing, happy, activist, virgin of a cheerleader who had a 3.7 GPA and bought her own '89 Bonneville thank you! And I was not the only one!

hey dont mean to be sterotyping, but thats how all the "poms" and "cheer" girls are out here. Most of them wont even talk to any people that arent on the teams. It's depressing. some cheerleaders arent like that, and want to break the image, but it doesnt help when you won't even talk to another non pom cheer girl. But the radical cheerleaders accept everyone, which is so awesome. but i must find them. keep posting! thanks

Okay, I am not trying to pick on anybody but I do make it a point to do what I can to reduce stereotyping. I really want to take this as an opportunity to educate on what stereotyping really is and what it can do. Here is where even, though you said you weren't going to use a stereotype, you did anyway.
You said that all of the pom and cheerleaders that you know are stuck up. I can not say if that is true or not because I do not know who you know and don't know. However, using that one fact as a basis to judge all cheerleaders is wrong. Everyone EVERYONE deserves a chance to be seen as their own person and labeled by some preconceived notion. I'm sure you don't like it when people don't give you a chance to be yourelf either. When you say "you won't talk to other non pom cheer girls," that is prejudice. Yes, I used that word. You are then judging me based on that idea that you have in your head... *she is a cheerleader and all of the cheerleaders I know don't talk to me. Therefore ALL cheerleaders must not want to talk to me, including her* First of all that is crap because I am talking to you right now, but even if I was that conceited, I still would deserve the decency for you to find that out for yourself before you put me into that group. That can also go for cheerleading as a whole. When you say that the radical cheerleaders are different because they accept everyone, you are then putting the label on all other cheerleading teams/squads/whatever that they are not accepting. Do you really know that all cheer teams are unaccepting?
I teach workshops on these issues for kids and the example I use for my really little kids is this. Obviously it' dumbed up a lot so that 6 and 7 year olds can understand it, but it still carries the same meaning. "Let's say that I know a girl who has brown eyes and she is really really mean to everyone. Then let's say I meet three other brown eyed girls and they are also really mean! Does that mean that all brown eyed girls are mean? Does being mean have anything to do do with the color of someoe's eyes? If there was a new girl in my class who had brown eyes, would it be right for me to ignore her when she talks to me because of what color her eyes are? How would that make this girl feel? Would you be able to find out if she was nice if you didn't give her that chance? Would you miss out on the chance to make a new friend?"
Anyway I hope that made sense and I hope everyone can take that into consideration in other aspects of life besides this little cheerleading example.
Again, not trying to pick on anyone, I swear! Just trying to educate. I know I sound like a nag, so I am very sorry about the nagginess, but this really is an important issue!
PS... I do think that the radical cheerleaders sounds like a VERY cool and worthwhile group. I hope you find the information you are looking for! :)

Omg I just looked at that link, I always wanted to be a cheer leader but I never went to school. Those radical cheer leaders are MUCH cooler than normal cheer leaders. I totally want to start or join a squad in Houston. I didn't see in any Texas but maybe I over looked them. It sounds like sooo much fun!

Oh, good golly I didn't read the entire thread this morning because I was in a hurry. "Those radical cheer leaders are MUCH cooler than normal cheer leaders." I didn't mean to be stereotypical either. I just think they are cool because some of their cheers are about the environment and animal rights rather than the school team. People aren't crayons and I will try not to put labels on them. lol

I realize that what she said was a joke. On the other hand, I really don't think that that kind of joke is appropriate. Like I said, I am not trying to attack anyone, just to let you know that jokes like that are definitely not PC. And no, that is not wrong for me to say!
And of course I have nothing against maple_syrup! I won't *judge* her based on that one post.

sure, i mean im not saying all cheerleaders are like that, but everyone i have met so far have been. I did not mention anything directly to you Strawberry, i was being general.
sterotypes suck no matter if you are the one doing the sterotyping, or the one being sterotyped. I get it all the time for not being black or white, but both, for having a white partner, for not listening to the same music, not buying from the swooshtika, etc etc. but really i dont mean to be offensive to anyone, all i wanted was some info on Rocky Mountain Radical Cheerleaders. And Fruitarian Girl, there is a huge Texas group apparently...........yeah. I don't know alot, but down at Rainbow Alley there was a representative from Houston that was a RC.

Rebel Girl, I didn't take it as a personal attack, believe me, I've heard it all before. It just really frustrates me when people can use some generality to judge an entire group. Obviously you know that that can hurt people. We all want to be given a chance.
Anyway, this is my last post here. This could go on and on but I don't really want to start getting nit picky. I hope you understand what I mean and why I said it, and that I really am serious about a serious issue.
