I can't take it anymore...I have been trying to go vegan (I've been vegetarian for almost 3 months) and I keep eating all of this dairy stuff and eggs...I can't help it!! :hungry: I think its mainly because my parents won't buy me soy milk because the first time I got it I was disgusted..but now I just wanna cook with it and I actually understand what it is and everything (before it got to my head) and I've been bugging my mom to get egg replacers but she just looks at me like I'm a freak....
I really just can't do this anymore :grr: I CANT I CANT I CANT..I HAVE TO STOP EATING THIS YUCKY EMBRYO'S AND COW MILK!!!
My family has been picking on me a lot to and their also worried about my health *cough* and recently my dad was told that his liver was full of fat and he needs to clean it out....yummy (my dad isnt vegetarian)
But anyways back to the point.....I really, truthfully, wanna stop eating these animal products...please help me with any advice or comments

Well, I think it's wonderful that you want to go vegan :) It's your body, you shouldn't have to put anything into it that you don't want to. Just a suggestion with the soy milk: Try different flavours, that will make it easier to drink if you don't like the plain stuff. You may have to buy a few of your own groceries, like egg replacers, but it will be worth it knowing that you wont have to use the real stuff.

First of all, being vegan is really tough for a lot of people (myself included) and even if you cant go completely you are still ahlping animals.

-Try to refuse eating certain products, youre parents can't shove them down your throat.
-Offer to pay for some groceries that only you want like egg replacer or soymilk with your own money
-Show them reliable sources that talk about health benefits of a vegan diet.
-Every time you're tempted to eat something with dairy or eggs, think of the animals
-If you really want soymilk: buy a container of soymilk with your own money and drink a glass plain, even if you can't stand the taste. Pretend to like it and tell your parents that the first container must have been bad and you really will use it if they buy it (This isnt the most honest approach but might work...)

Good luck. It takes a lot of will-power to go vegetarian or vegan and whatever veg*n diet you decidee on will be helping the animals.

heh, I definently would buy it myself if I had money but unfortunately my only money source is b-day, christmas money, and money I steal *cough* sneak from my parents...I never take more than $5 though

Oh I did a report on vegetarianism for school (4 pages) and I let my parents read it..I think that they understand my diet better at least I think they do  --If anybody wants to read it I can send it to you.

Sounds interesting, could you PM it to me?

Some stores sell soymilk in pint containers which are pretty cheap. Maybe you could manage to buy one of those.

Haha.. That's what they'd like you to think anyway :P

But yeah if you don't want to just don't. Depending on what your parents are like it can be a bit hard for the first couple of weeks, (Ie.. lots of yelling/argueing.. Having hardly any food you can eat..etc) but after they realise your serious about it they'll loosen up.

Also most parents fears are that you won't eat anything.. So like eat a ton of veggies.. etc.. And show them you can still eat food when your Vegan.

And also with the paying for the food.. You can blackmail them.. Haha :p
Just yeah if your parents are like "You don't eat anything anymore" you can just be like "Well if I HAD soymilk I'd be able to make heaps with it.."

etc etc.. It does get easier! Just don't back down!

hey! you came to the right place for support. i have a wild oats right next to my school ( like a 3 minute walk) and so i walk there after school to shop alot. Egg replacer is sorta pricey but definitly worth it. they also sell soy milk in little like..juice containers. Very Vanilla Silk Soy milk tastes like a vanilla milk shake, you could try that. i just made brownies with my egg replacer and i messed up on the reciepe and it was gross :(. but good luck!! i survived for awhile on burriotos...

try different brands of soymilk.. i highly reccomend Silk. :lick: especially vanilla and chocolate...

if you truly want to do it, just do it. your parents will have to deal with it, like mine did. :D

I just told them, after i had been lacto-ovo-veg for 11 months, that i was going vegan.. and they had to deal with it... If they ask why, or protest, calmly explain why you just cannot eat animal products anymore, and prove to them that you can be healthy. Make sure you can get plenty of the needed nutrients, especially b12 and iron. I've been vegan for almost a year since i told them, and I am healthier than I was even as a lacto-ovo-veg because i carefully watched what foods i ate. And now it seems like second nature to eat the right foods. :)

good luck. :)

i agree with fafafrappy. your parents will have to deal. of course they will ask u questions in there favor about ur eating habbits, or poke fun at u cause u dont eat meat. it makes them feel better. but dont give up. if everything came so easy..would you even try?

These are really great suggestions!

Maybe you should offer to cook for your family every now and then. I cook one vegan meal a week and double the recipe so there are leftovers for another day. My parents think it is great that they don't have to cook twice a week and they don't mind, actually, they don't even notice, that it is animal-product free.

Also, you don't neccessarily need powdered egg replacers. Many recipes use banana, tofu, pureéd prunes, or baking soda in leu of eggs. Or you could make egg-free desserts... Fruit sorbet, cinnamon-raisin bread, and fruit pie in a graham cracker crust are all sweets that are made easily without eggs or egg replacer.

If you do buy your own soymilk, wait until it goes on sale. The other week, I got aseptic quarts of soymilk for just $0.99 each. I stocked up ;)

Good luck with everything!!

Do the math, i got my mom to buy me a box of egg replacer by doing the math and showing her that, here at least, its a few cents cheeper per egg for me to bake with that. Some veggie food is cheeper, or the same as, meat foods. Bring a calculator with you to the store, she cant argue with you on cost if you're spending less than she is.

eeee I'm so happy!! I gotta tell you guys everything...ok..

Last night I made taco salad (with fake "ground beef") and made it for me, my SISTER'S FRIEND and my DAD...actually my sister wanted to try some too but I ran out!! I was so amazed that they even considered trying it...Britanni wanted seconds and I did too:D yay!!!

Ok so then I got my dad to take me to the health food store and he let me get a small bottle of the chocolate soy silk that you were talking about AND I got the egg replacers!!

So I'm so happy that things are getting better with this and to all of you new vegetarians, it will be rough at first and you'll have good days and bad days but after awhile (a long while) people will adjust to it and accept your diet, at least that's how it worked for me.

Oh and for the milk and egg problem...well I had ice cream yesterday and a milk shake today, but I am going completely vegan on my birthday...wish me luck!! :hamster: :D

If anybody else wants to read my report its finished and typed
