 I dunno if I should do my english project on vegetarianism or not because I'm kind've scared of how people will react to me being vegetarian. My clase is really goofy too, actually I think almost half of the class is into drugs, smoking, sex or all of them....and here I am clean, no drugs, no sex, no nasty smoking, AND on top of that I'm vegetarian! Should I even care about how they react???? Man I don't want people to not like me because I don't eat flesh and drink another species milk :(
errrgh so frustrating!!!

I'd say do it. I've done a few assignments and voiced my opinions about the eating of animals and the reaction I get is either interested, weirded out, or a few idiots who just say "what a freak" but those are the close minded annoying people I dont like anyway. Suprisingly, a lot of kids find the topic of vegetarianism interesting, even if they don't agree with it.

I did a report on veganism for my required health class last year, back when I was still an omnivore. I got a lot of goofy comments from idiots, but it wasn't a big deal. Of course, as I said, I wasn't vegan back then, so I may have acted differently if I was. I really suggest you do it though, unless you feel kind of weird foisting your opinions on other people.

I think that you should do it. I think it is kind of fun to have people look at me weird, or kind of challenge them, to see what comments they will say to try to spark a debate. I wouldn't care how they react, but I live in a community that is very open to veg*anism and such. If you go about your life wanting to hide the fact that you are veg, you are hiding a great deal of who you are. I don't know about the rest of you, but being vegan is a big part of me and my life style. Be proud of it. Get ready for the weird looks, reproving statements and the strange questions. Hey, maybe you'll even convert a few people.

I think you should go for it. Of course you will get people who will say stupid comments, but do you really care what those people have to say anyway? I'm sure you'll get nice comments from the people who really care to you. Plus, there is a bonus of doing one on vegetarianism, you already know alot about it, and what you could specifically research, and you've got all of us here online to help you out, if you want to make polls or get opinions etc :)

 hmmmm ok!! I've never really thought about how much fun it would really be just seeing the different reactions I get. Thanks!!
We're supposed to have a visual aid too, I was thinking that maybe I could get one of PETA's video's and show it to the class??? Any suggestions???

show them the meatrix!!! Its not offensive, but you might wanna ask your teacher beforehand.. I did a story for the school newspaper on vegetarianism, and it kinda helped with people annoying me about my diet and that I was gonna die because humans just HAVE to eat meat. I still have problems with people asking me dumb questions (How can you not eat meat?) but it usually helps a little.

Nothing graphip. That won't do you any favours. It'll just make you look like you're being pushy. If I had to pick one, the meatrix would be the one.

Good idea! :vebo:
One more thing--- I was thinking about handing out leaflets to all of them or something cute like that, any ideas on that?? It's due in a week so I don't have much time.

hand out pictures of smiling pigs, chickens, cows and baby cows. But i dont know about that. dont hand anything out.....or if your really into it, ask students if they are really intrested in it, have a small amount of Why Vegan?'s around or something. But only if they want it.

i did 2 projects on veg*nism, one on how it benefits the environment for my science term paper (i got an A!!! :vebo:) and then another three-prong thesis paper for lit & comp on how vegetarianism is good for 1)the animals 2)the environment and 3) health and got an A too!!! :vebo:
and yeah i know how you feel when you're a minority (drugs n sex vs. being clean-wise) it does get frustrating when girls who've got nothing go flaunting themselves anyway and then we're left feeling ugly. or when theyre all like "yeah i had to shower before my mom got home so she couldnt smell the smoke on me" aargh it makes me mad. Booze, sex, and drugs=why this world is dying (besides the destruction of the rainforest, global warming and ozone depletion of course)

I've chosen not to do my school assignments on vegetarianism because its the only thing some people know about me, and I don't want them to think that's all I am
and, because it IS improtant to me, I found when I wrote an aritcle on it (for a magazine outside of school) that I spent a lot more effort than needed trying to make it perfect.

It'll prolly be easiest for you to do your project on Veganism anyway, since you prolly know heaps about it anyway. So you won't have to do much research.
