We're going to head over to Chevy's tonight for some mexican food. From the Chevy's website, the following items are listed as vegan:
Vegan Options• Mixed Green Salad with salsa vinaigrette dressing (request no ranchero cheese)• Guacamole Appetizer (request no ranchero cheese garnish)• Chips & Salsa• Veggie Fajitas (request no sour cream)• Portobello Mushroom & Asparagus Fajitas (request no sour cream)• Veggie Burrito• Mexican Rice• Black Beans• Corn Tortillas• Flour Tortillas (with the exception of the flour tortillas off El Machino as they contain whey)
Anyone tried any of these? I'm thinking of getting the Portobello/Asparagus Fajitas.

I've gotten the veggie burrito. Other than being way overpriced and the beans kind of runny I thought it was ok. Some of the other items sound pretty good though. That's awesome they have vegan items listed on their website. :)

beware of the mexican chocolate
if you've read the gross food stories, this is where i was when we had the chocolate/bbq sauce mixup.
i wasn't vegetarian when i went but i remember the food was good and portions were huge.

There was a horrible incident that I had at this restaurant a couple of months ago. My bf and I both ordered something completely veggie...The waiter brought our meals to the table, and my bf's order had shrimp in it!!! This wouldn't have been such a problem if it wasn't for the fact that he is EXTREMELY allergic to shellfish! He ate a bit of it before noticing, when he found out we pretty much ran out of the restaurant! So be careful when ordering, and make it clear and specify that you want everything vegetarian! I don't think we'll be going back any time soon!

Reading their online menu, it says the fajitas come with el machino tortillas, which aren't vegan... I think I'll ask them to sub in corn or regular flour tortillas.

Never been there... but a mushroom and asparagus fajita sounds awesome. Maybe I'll call my mom and see if she wants to go out to dinner. :)

Yep. It's a Tex-Mex chain. Ours just opened about a year ago, I had never heard of them until then.

I was just at Chevy's the other night and tried to request the Portobello Mushroom & Asparagus Fajitas without sour cream but the server told me there was cheese cooked into them.
I ended up getting the Veggie fajitas which were very good. They did send me my black beans with cheese on top of them but quickly fixed that faux pas since I'd lied and told them I was allergic to cheese. I hate having to be sneaky!

I had the portobello/asparagus combo, and it was great! I requested corn tortillas to make doubly sure I didn't get any from the el machino.
the server told me there was cheese cooked into them.
Hmmm... shouldn't be. My server said there was no cheese, and I definitely didn't see any. Plus the website said it was vegan, so, I trust it.
They did send me my black beans with cheese on top of them but quickly fixed that faux pas since I'd lied and told them I was allergic to cheese.
They did this to me too, but, quickly fixed it. I also requested NOTHING else on the plate, no extra sides, etc., but, they did end up bringing me this cornmush ball thing which I had read had cream and butter in it, so, I quickly got it off my plate. Usually I won't eat anything on a plate that had animal products on it even for a second, but, I made sure I got ALL of it off so I didn't have to send back my entire plate.
All in all, a good experience! :bobo:

I miss Chevy's. There used to be one really close to work. My hubby and I would go there for lunch a lot. They just recently closed, though. A Mexican/Cajun place called Border Cafe up the highway a bit stole too much business, I guess. That place is good, too, just not as veg*n friendly.
Part of the problem I think is that not enough people around here have been exposed to Mexican-style food other than what they can get at Taco Bell.
