Does anyone know any good brands? There are a lot that _appear_ vegan, but they always have the good old "natural flavors" or "natural smoke flavor," etc. Plus, they're never as good as, say, the Riblets BBQ sauce. Why is that? I love the sauce that's with the Gardenburger Riblets, but if I add any other brand, it tastes different. Is it actually because it's cooked with the "meat," or is it just a different flavor?
Anyway, what kind(s) do you guys like? I used to get the Heinz "Kick'rs" BBQ ketchup...or...whatever that was called, because supposedly it's vegan, and it was pretty good. I don't think that make that anymore though.

Yeah, Heinz says all of their "natural flavors" come from plant sources. I don't know about any other brands. Arby's barbeque sauces are vegan too.

what about making your own bbq sauce???
the tofu cookery cookbook has the most kick*ss bbq sauce recipe ever
that combined with their bbq tofu recipe is a dish that is beyond good

they stopped making kickers?
i don't know, i was using bull's eye for a while just to use up what was left but i haven't bought new stuff since then, i was using kickers and lately i'm using tomato chili sauce. it's more tomato than chili but it's good on veggie burgers :lick:

If you have a good HFS or natural foods section at a grocery in your area, definitely take a look at the Annie's Organics BBQ sauce. I know that they're a company reputable not to use animal derived ingredients (unless it is part of the recipe, like cheese in some salad dressings) so you'd likely be pretty safe with that. I had some BBQ seitan from a local co-op that they made with Annie's sauce and it was darn good stuff!

Thanks VE! I think I may have had that...I've seen it at stores plenty of times, but I can't remember if I ever bought any. I'll get some soon, I really need to go to the store.

Another great vegan ketchup is Boar's Head Spicy Jalepaneo. I called them to make sure because one ingredient was "natural flavorings." It has a great kick and I use it on everything!
