I tried the vegetarian canned (chinese) duck made by champion, and I didn't like it, however it was very meat like in texture...
They even make it seem like it has the skin on, sorry if that grosses you out or anything...
It even grossed me out a little, and I still crave meat, so go figure...
I don't recommend it but that's just me...
I put BBQ sauce on it, but maybe someone has a good idea for a recipe, I don't though...
And it is seasoned already, maybe that is what I didn't like about it...
Just an FYI...
It's relatively cheap where I bought it, but if you think you would like it,
you can get it on no meat.com...
It has a Chinese name and it's made by champion...

Wow! It sounds kind of gross. Fake meat in a can?!! Yikes!

reminds me off that scene at the end of christmas story where all the chinese waiters are singing chritmas songs (fra ra ra ra ra) and they cut the head off of the duck(soorry not trying to gross anyone out, but im sure youve seen the movie)

I don't have access to that particular brand but I buy one that's imported from asia. I really like it in stir-fries but occassionally I'll eat it on it's own too. It kind of grows on you :)

I used to have an Indian neighbor who taught me to make excellent tandoori "chicken" with mock duck. You basically marinate the mock duck in a spicy mixture of yogurt and spices, and then grill or barbecue it until crusty. It's absolutely delicious, and you don't taste the mock duck - it only provides an amazingly realistic texture and mouthfeel.

I wouldn't eat mock duck on its own, though, and I personally wouldn't even make salad out of it. I dunno, the taste has started to grow on me, but still....

Fake duck in a can, with "skin" substance even??? :spew: That's a little too realistic for me. Plus I never liked the taste of duck when I was an omni.

As for some of the recipes mentioned here, I'd rather just use seitan. Especially for the tandoori!! :lick:

i never had duck, but my friend who has had it ordered fake duck at buddha's delight (vegan place in boston) and said it was fairly accurate. i tried some and got a bit weirded out by it's ropy texture. but now i can't get the idea of making tandoori fake chicken out of my head. neat! can you get this stuff at asian markets? online?

You can get it online, at nomeat.com It's made by champion, and made in Taiwan...I think it's pretty realistic, but yes, it needs a sauce...Hopefully it will work well for you, please, let us know...:)

I like mock duck... it's not the same brand, but I think it's the same, with the 'skin' and all, canned.

I like sliced thinly, on rye bread with a little eggfree mayo, sliced red onion, tomato and lettuce, + s&p :)

Or simply diced and mixed with brown rice, with a little soy sauce or ketchup.

Maybe I have a weird tase in food
