My maglight has been out of batteries for a few weeks and I kept meaning to go out and get new ones, but a few days ago I stumbled across a battery-less flashlight... which actually turned out pretty good.

It's called the NighStar 2. This thing is soo cool, you shake it for about 30 seconds and it gives about 20 minutes of light. It's waterproof up to 430feet, can withstand 4ft drops, and is resistant to chemical exposure..

Here's a link with a pretty good review on it, http://flashlightreviews1.home.att.net/reviews/ait_nightstar2.htm

I got mine from a local shop, but I've seen a few on ebay. I've also seen a few different models at http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/5a9f/ (though the NightStar has recieved much better reviews).

No batteries = less waste & happy environment :sunny:

That's pretty cool. It would be great for a camping trip or something. Thank you.

I've got (or used to have) a wind-up radio.

They also sell windable lights and cell phone chargers.

Note: imo one should avoid to use non-rechargable batteries. Sometimes these are recycled by poor people (and or children) in India.

Maglite also sells a pack of rechargable batteries for some maglite torches.

LED flashlights rock. I have a small one, it just uses one AA battery, but it lasts for a loooong time. I might get a Nightstar, they sound very cool. I'm a bit worried about the magnetic field though, since I'm surrounded by electronics....

How much did you pay for yours, VeggieMonster?
