Anyone tried it yet? I just did today, and there is a big difference without the cane juice. Not bad, just different. I definitely think it is nice to have the 'no sugar added' option. I'll probably end up buying it for cereal and baking, and regular for drinking plain. Good for diabetics, too.

I'm going to try that too. Now that Silk Nog is gone, I want to make some of my own as it'll work better than the vanilla flavor.

I've been using it the last couple months. I don't drink soy milk plain, never liked cow's milk that way. Something about a thick drink creeps me out. It's great on cereal and in cooking, terrific option to help keep my sugar intake as low as possible.

I wish they carried it at my grocery store. I'd like to try it (sorry but SoySlender tastes awful!)

I love it! I think it tastes the closest to cow's milk of any of the soymilks (but not TOO close.) It doesn't have as overpowering a taste on cereal and stuff. Big thumbs up from me!

The unsweetened variety is the best. I use it all of the time. I can't hang with the vanilla at all, waaaay too sweet. The regular is OK, but the unsweetened works in everything from mashed potatoes to cereal.

I really like the unsweetened Silf. I don't drink it straight (I only drink the chocolate kind straight), but I use it as creamer in my coffee or latte, and in recipes. I still use the vanilla on cereal though.

I found it at Whole Foods.

I went to Albertson's the other day, and it's like the Silk selection exploded! I was shocked! They had twin packs of the plain, then they have very vanilla (which is prob. really sweet), the unsweetened, and also enhanced (with extra something or other vitamins), along with the regular stuff. Pretty cool. I'll have to try the unsweetened, sounds healthier. If anyone tries the other kinds, please post how they taste!

i'm glad i saw this thread...now that i've started watching what i eat again, i've been making myself eat breakfast, specifically cereal..so for the first time in a long time, i have a need for milk.

and i came to this forum to specifically search for a good soymilk that wasn't going to be too flavored or sweet (i always used to hate how milk tasted after cereal made it all sweet when i was a kid.) and i saw this thread.

the first whole foods i went to tonight was out of the unsweetened silk, but the second one had it...so i get to try it tomorrow!

The green carton, right?

I LOVE it, but it only comes in Pints, I wish it came in half-gallon. My big HEB has it stocked all the time. I also love the SILK Soylatte, it is really good! Lots of caffiene though; :surprised:

Why doesn't SILK come in Gallon size?
I have always wondered that!

I've never tried any soymilk but unsweetened. Silk is good, but, I tend to buy westsoy more as it doesn't have to be refridgerated until opened.

Yeah, Ukrops has it in half gallons but I like VitaSoy Unsweetened the best but Silk is very yummy. Mark drinks the Unsweetened Vitasoy straight.

I tried this a few weeks ago. I don't eat cereal that much, I mostly bought it for baking purposes, but I decided to try a glass, just to see. Personally, I thought it tasted 'blech' (I tried, but I couldn't find a better word to describe it!). Like it was okay, it didn't make me want to throw up or anything, but it just tasted very different and left a weird taste in my mouth. When I do buy soymilk I buy the Silk Plain, so I thought it would taste pretty much the same but it was totally different. For an extra 5 g of sugar, I'd choose the plain

westsoy is WAY too sweet. blech.

I saw that Westsoy has an unsweetened variety now, or was that edensoy? Same company?
What kind of Westsoy is so sweet?
The vanilla?
I tried the plain silk and it was blech, maybe it had gone bad, I think it had...
So I have only really had chocolate soymilk from silk and vitasoy, all of which was good...
The silk chocolate is a bit watery though...Have some chocolate almond breeze I need to try...
I have some cans of the vietnamese kind, but haven't been eating cereal, so...I am lacto ovo, though...
Someday, I might switch to soymilk...

Has anyone tried the new 'Enhanced' version? It has flax seed oil, so I have finally found an easy way to get my Omega 3's! :D

I wasn't too thrilled with the Enhanced Silk. It had a slightly funky taste and a weird viscous quality to it. My boyfriend liked it just fine, though, so your milage may vary.

I buy the Silk Unsweeted to use in baking and mashed potatoes and such. It's not that great for drinking, which is a good thing, because it keeps my boyfriend from drinking it all before I get a chance to use it. He's a soymilk addict!

I haven't brought myself to getting the plain yet - though I know I should. :o

It's got to by much healthier than the chocolate one which is the only one I get regularly. :lick:

I got the very vanilla one - blegh! It was so sweet. It tasted like the milk left after a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal! I want to try the enhanced version - but with flax seed in it, it's probably not good to cook with - which is mainly what I use soy milk for.

does the unsweetened kind taste more "beany" than the sweetened?

VeggieKitten
February 10th, 2004, 11:16 AM
Skunk, I wouldn't say it is more "beany", just less sweet. It actually zings you for a second after the first taste, cause you don't realize just how sweetened conventional soy milk is.

Unsweetened has now grown on me. I've just finished off the carton since first posting this thread. No one else in my house knows the difference and I would much rather do without the extra sugar. I think from now on I'll be getting the unsweetened for primary milk, and vanilla in a smaller container for special things.
