I often read old posts from in the 'similiar threads' box or when doing a search. What is the etiquette about posting to these older threads? Is there a time cut-off when it is not acceptable to post anymore?

I have nothing against it. Bump the fun ones up and leave the stinkers in history. My opinion only of course.

You may want to mention up front that you're bumping it, just to make it clearer where the old discussion stops and the new one begins.

Examples:

*bump*

"I'm bumping this thread because I wanted to add..."

As a moderately new member, I love when old (interesting) threads are re-opened. Case in point, the circumcision thread. Someone also bumped a fun thread asking women how crunchy we were. I like Skylark's advice, too. :)

I would say it's up to you. As long as it's not on the first few pages of recent posts then I think it's fine to start a new thread.

A lot of it just depends on what you want out of it. If you're seeking opinions it might be good to start a new thread so that it generates a little discussion and gets newer members involved. If you don't really have anything new to add and just want to make a brief comment then it might be best to bump.

I don't know, I would probably say if the thread hasn't had a post in the last 3 months you should probably just start a new one.

I also agree with Skylarks comment about making it clear that it was bumped. I get really confused otherwise....

No problems, please enlighten us on your own form of humping etiquette!

Funny how you can read thread titles wrong when you have something else on your mind!
