Babylon 5 , season 4 boxed DVD set is finally out so I picked it up today. I've watched 3 episodes already (trying to spread the 22 episodes out a bit LOL). Man this is the best sci-fi series ever made

Ok, now you may ignore this thread ;-)

Aren't they working on a movie, to tie up some of the loose threads left when the show was cancelled?

Wow ... someone actually replied .. hehe ;-) . I never saw B5 while it was on TV but now I've seen all of the seasons except 5 (which isn't on DVD yet) ... I watched all 22 45-minute long episodes of season 4 in 4 days this week. This series is an incredible thing. The multi-year story arc and intertwined sub-stories and multiple conspiracy elements , not to mention how main characters change greatly, all make this series a science fiction classic.

I'm not sure. There is a post about an announcement about something 'big' on Jan 15 on a B5 message board

I hope there won't be some TV movie before season 5 is on DVD as I haven't seen season 5 .... I would have to decide whether to avoid the movie for now and hope for a DVD release later.

I never heard that it was cancelled. The show went the 5th season which was all it was meant to go as far as I know (it was going to be cancelled at the end of season 4 which is why they crammed so much into season 4 and tied up the main story lines and the re-taking of Earth theme concluded)

Babylon 5 is one of my favorite tv shows ever and hands down the best sci-fi series (all you Trekkers can bite my ass).

The fourth season was definatly the best, but it also makes me sad because I wish they had known that the show wasn't going to be cancelled, so they could have taken more time with the various story lines. As good as it is, it all feels a bit rushed, although they did an amazing job fitting everything in.

I soooo want to buy the whole series on DVD, only $290 for the first four seasons! Someday I will have that, along with all the seasons of Farscape.

Oh and one more parting shot at Star Trek. Watching Babylon 5 or Farscape makes me very annoyed with the entire Star Trek franchise. With a fraction of the budget, these shows manage to write more emotionally engaging, complex characters, and create more interesting, albiet sometimes cheesy, special effects than Star Trek could ever manage.

"Oh and one more parting shot at Star Trek"

hehe ........ I like Star Trek (mostly the original) but B5 totally different.

Actually this statement could apply to the first star trek where they didn't have a budget and I think had the best stories of all the star trek's

What amazed me about Babylon 5 (and I have never seen it on TV so this was all new to me on the DVD's) is the story arc and many subarcs. How the characters changed over the seasons is very good (like Londo and G'Kar ). Another thing that is incredible is the amount of mystery and suspense and plot twists occuring all the time.

Yeah season 4 definately was packed to the brim (not one "filler" episode that wasn't part of the story). Kindof sad that only one more season remains unseen (by me). Also sad that apparently Susan Ivanova won't be in season 5 (wow was the acting great by her at the end of season 4 with her injuries and talking about Marcus after he died saving her). Also how she got injured was so surprising ...... a freak accident of their ship running into a piece of debris from the battle after the main fight was over ..... that was quite shocking how it was done.

Oh well I shouldn't 'babble on' about Babylon 5 any longer ;-)
