Anyone interested in raw food should check out this really beautiful, innovative book by Charlie Trotter and Roxanne Klein. Here's a link for more info http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1580084702/qid=1073585881/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/103-3640297-1882209

It's rather pricey ($35), and contains a lot of extremely difficult to find ingredients, even for "in the know" raw fooders (stuff like Meyer lemons and some sort of seaweed gel that begins with a "T"), but it's such a lovely book. The photos are gorgeous and plentiful and the recipes look extremely appetizing and ingenious. I highly recommend that any raw fooder just check it out next time you go to the bookstore.

I'm not surprised about the price, considering that it's near impossible to have dinner at Roxanne's and get out for less than $100. And that's WITHOUT wine. I wish I could afford to go there more than once every two years.

Ahh OK so it's out finally. This book was advertised long before its release! I will try to get it from the library.. :book:

So you were there? Did you like it? Have you ever tried they raw deli that they opened not long ago (the first in the world)?

:)

Yes, this is what I would do. It doesn't seem like the sort of book that someone who is into raw food could really use in a practical sense. It's just pretty to look at. Full disclosure though, I'm not a raw fooder and know very little about it.

I'm pretty surprised to hear about the prices at Roxanne's though. Veggie Life did a feature on her and her restaurant a year or so ago. The stuff looked great, but sheesh, $100 for raw veggies?! I don't care how artfully they're arranged that's just crazy.

funny - i found this book in waterstones (bookshop here in the uk) last week. It was the only 'raw' recipe book they had. Ive no idea who the authors are. but anyway, its a very good-looking book. Lovely photos. I had a quck skim thru the recipes. It was selling for £35 - thats right, british pounds not dollars. Yikes. I didnt buy it. Its such a beautiful book i think i would be scared of getting it dirty. hehe

Yah, I was there a couple of times and it's quite an experience. I'd describe it as unpretentious fine dining. There are people there dressed up as well as people in jeans-hey, it's marin! The service is impeccable, the staff is knowledgeable and the food is really fantastic. Portions are on the small side, but I didn't go away hungry. Actually, it was great to walk out of there after a great meal feeling sated, but not stuffed.

I haven't tried the deli yet, but one of these days...
