Does anyone here have the cookbook Sinfully Vegan by Lois Dieterly? If so, can you tell me if any/a lot of the recipes call for margarine?
I'd like to order it, but I'm afraid I'll get it only to discover that many/most/all of the recipes require margarine (which will make it useless to me since I can't get vegan margarine here).
I know oil can be substituted for margarine sometimes but I would rather not have to make substitutions, and in some recipes it doesn't work well anyway.

I just received it today so I haven't made anything yet, but the recipes sure sound good!
I just had a quick flick through and I'd say at least 1/3 of the recipes call for margarine or vegetable shortening.
If you can't get vegan margarine, can you get vegan cream cheese? Cause almost all the cheesecake's call for 4 tubs of cream cheese per recipe, since it's really expensive here I don't think I will be making them that often!!

I got this for xmas.. have not look beyond the names of the recipes, but i am looking forward to making each and every one of them..
sorry i was no help.. but are you certain you dont have a vegan margarine and just dont realize you do. i have heard many regular name brands are vegan. Can you ask your store to carry earth balance?

I saw this book at the bookstore, it looks really great! Let us know how the recipes come out.

I made the Boston Cream Pie from this book the other day and it was so bad that I actually threw it out :-( It was dry and dense and really not at all like Boston Cream Pie. I'm hoping some of the other recipes are good, but I would advise staying away from that one!

I got this from my Secret Santa this year. I've looked through the recipes, but can't remember if they called for a lot of margarine. Sorry...

I made the peanut butter cookies yesterday(they were oil and not margarine ones). I didn't really like them much, not quite sure why though I don't think i've ever had anything that's been peanut butter flavoured so it was probably my tastes more than the actual recipe.

Hmm...maybe I'll just get something else. I have a 50$ gift certificate for Amazon, which is enough for about 4 cookbooks. There are a few others that I want.
I find it really annoying trying to buy cookbooks online (not being able to browse through them first). But my local bookstores don't have much in the way of vegan cookbooks.
