So many folks here seem to have pets, Im curious how many folks have.

I have 3 dogs and two cats, and am contemplating taking in a couple more rescue kitties.

For any of you that may not know this already,
kpickell is an awesome animal-friend. :wayne:

don't you have laws in your area about that many animals? :lol:

There is a max 4 dog and cat combo allowed in edmonton. Beyond that and you can be charged with animal cruelty :Lol:

Of course...they don't know how many you have if you don't register them with the local authorities :D

Not in this particular area. So long as it is kept sanitary and the animals are not a nuissance (my cats are indoor) it's fine.
Animal control actually called me about 2 puppies living under an apartment because I had reported finding one of the littermates in the street and had to take her in for a blood transfusion. They know about my animals, but they preferred I take the 2 puppies (black lab/dalmation) because they would have just euthanized them. That's how I came to have Julie and Brody. The other puppy, Lily, we placed in a good home. We've visited her a couple times and she is very happy. They renamed her Shadow.

In our house, weve got ten animals.
3 cats, Patches, Dude and Bucky, 3 fishies, Sigur Ros, Dory, Nemo, 2 gerbils (we need names!!!),1 rabbit, sugar, 1 dog, thing
Thing was found last year in a puppy mill. The only thing we could do was take one home... The place was even worse than what I had imagined a puppy mill to be. The state of Kansas does nothing. My gerbils were bought from a pet store... but the people that own this place get them from "accidents" when people get two gerbils and dont check them until its too late... Two of my fishies were bought there... My other one (Sigur Ros) was rescued from one of those carnival booths... Basically, you throw a ball into a little cup and you get a fish for every one you get in. (very easy game) so people were getting fish and not knowing how to take care of them. My rabbit was gotten as a "non showable" kind, so it was pretty useless to these people that showed rabbits... All of my kitties were rescued from the outdoors or a shelter.

We have 6 Rotties: Jack, Shadow, Daisy, Apollo, Sally, and Duke. Apollo had a twin brother named Zeus, but he died from Parvo at 6 months... we got Apollo to the vet's in time though. :( (But a couple days later, Sally and Duke were born!) I also had pet bunnies when I was younger (6 or so...) and we've always had dogs at home.

Wow, erin, how do you keep up? I see myself there in the not too distant future. I have a really hard time sying no. How many litterboxes :)
Kpickell, you just rock! I tried fostering Gracie Lou Freebush, my choodle, but I got too attached, and since she didnt try to eat the cats, I kept her! Then We had to have her a playmate, she, Caramel and I all went to the shelter together to find someone we all liked. If someone had offered me a beagle, ID have been like "No Way!" But shes perfect! (asside from that little incident where she ate two of the corners off the coffee table)
I had not realized there were limits on pets per household, but I guess in many cases, it would be a good idea. I know my apartment has a 2 pet limit, oops! We are hoping to build a house next year though... Luckily my land lady loves my critters. She even calls me and my friend if she finds any strays.

Cissy, I love rotties!! I cant imagine how much food you must go through though.

aww thanks for the kind words Erin, and veggrl too. =)
It's so nice to see so many people taking care of pets, especially all of you who have rescued and adopted animals. Big thumbs up to you all!

... From my inbox today: If I Didn't Have Dogs
If I didn't have dogs.....
1) I could walk around safely barefoot in the dark;
2) My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated;
3) All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of dog hair;
4) When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like the SPCA kennels;
5) When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through four or five dog bodies who beat me there;
6) I could sit how I wanted on the couch without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable;
7) I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree....like dog bones, stuffed animals or have to answer to people why I wrap them up;
8) I would not be on a first name basis with three vets;
9) The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, and leave him/her ALONE;
10) My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers;
11) My purse would not contain things like poo pick up bags, dog treats and an extra leash;
12) I would no longer have to spell the world B-A-L-L or F-R-I-S-B-E-E or W-A-L-K-I-E-S;
13) I would not buy weird things to stuff into "kongs", or have to explain why I'm buying them, or what a "kong" is;
14) I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside;
15) I would not look strangely at people who think having their ONE dog ties them down too much;
16) I would not have to answer the question why do I have so many dogs from people who will never have the joy in their life of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get. Who else has a friend who considers you the MOST important thing in the whole wide world all the time.

Sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) they drive me bonkers, but they're worth it. The dogs are more difficult than the cats because of their size.
I have 2 mega deluxe Littermaids. It works for now, but I have to dump the compartment a lot. I want to get a couple more Littermaids or a new litter system eventually.
You're right. It is hard saying no.

Great post Kpickell. :)
I spell things out around my dogs too, but I think Dixie and Gavin have finally caught on.

Do the littermaids really work well? I've not heard good things about them. I currently have 6 litterboxes - 5 in the basement and 1 upstairs (with 3 different litters!). I could have at least 2 less if I didn't have the cat who peed everywhere. I scoop them about every other day, and change them completely about twice a month. I should do it more often, but I should also get help with everything from my family who also own the cats, but they're 100% my responsibility for some reason... (its one of those "megan works at the vet -- she is the only one who can scoop litter" logic things)
