This candy was on PETA's good candy (vegan) list. I'd never heard of it, but happened upon it at the drugstore today.

Man these are good. They are small rectangles of peanuts covered in a light molasses flavored caramel goo covered in a chocolate substance that's just made from cocoa butter. They come about 8 rectangles to the king size package (the only carried at the store I was at). These are super good and if you dig sweets try to get your hands on these.

Here're the ingredients: peanuts, corn syrup, sugar, molasses, dextrose, partially hydrogenated veg oil (cottonseed, soybean), cocoa powder, soya lecthin, salt.

ETA: that's covered in cocoa POWDER not butter. Eww.

I use to buy these all the time, but am having trouble finding them now. Last time I found some, I grabbed a handful out of the display. When I got home, I noticed a few of them weren't the original, they had milk chocolate in them. I'm glad I looked before I ate. I just wish I would have noticed before buying them.

some stores sell these in the 'kosher foods section' or stores that are mostly frequented by jewish people

the candy is pretty good
you can actually by them by the king size bar pack, a box containing several unwrapped ones (movie theater size), and a bag of wrapped ones.
i give out the wrapped ones for halloween sometimes

We used to carry these at VeganEssentials, but unfortunately we stopped stocking them when we found that they couldn't guarantee that they would be produced without bone-char refined sugar. We used to carry a few things that had refined sugar as it is still a grey area to many vegans since you're not actually eating the bone-char in the finished product (much like the issue of shared dairy equipment with vegan chocolate.) But, as we'd received so many people who were against the possibility of bone char in anything we offered we decided to pull them from our site until the company can guarantee that they'll be making them in a way suitable to all vegans. Apparently, each batch that comes out uses one of two brands of sugar, one that's non refined and one that is, and since they can't tell which one is used once the product is made and packed, this poses a problem to people who still aren't big on refined sugars. We're looking at trying to get them to make us a special run with the unrefined sugars, so if we can do this in the future we'll definitely have them back available again. We rarely see them anywhere - usually out-of-the-way convenience stores and small groceries, but definitely check the labels as mentioned because they do have a milk chocolate version that turns up once in a while, too!

That's a bummer about the sugar issue. Still, I gave them out on Halloween, as I thought they were a better option than the other available bags of candy. I ate a few, and they were good! They must have changed the recipe, because I remember selling them as a kid to raise money for my soccer league, and that candy was NASTY. We had friends of the family who agreed to some under the condition that they give me the money but keep the candy for myself......

The VeganEssentials person is right about them being sold in out of the way places. I bought mine at a Sav-On that has a lot of old school candy like Chik-o-Sticks (man, these rule. For those not in the know, they are like the inside of a Butterfinger without the chocolate), and Charlston Chews (which are not vegan, but still hard to find for anyone who's looking).
