this isn't a specific product related.. so if a mod thinks it may be better suited elsewheres, that's cool

i was just wondering about the whole deal about shampooing everyday versus every other day.. which is better? i work out and work at a barn everyday, so i'm pretty sweaty and grungy.. but i've also heard that shampooing everyday strips oils from your hair and makes it dry out more?

help!

just a bit confoosled

It may be true that it strips oils, but I have to wash my hair every day (especially if I work out). I've tried it. When I don't, even if I don't workout, the hair near my scalp looks oily and dirty. And my scalp gets buildup on it.

I wash my hair whenever it starts to get greasy, which is about once every 5 days or so. This is mainly because I am too lazy to spend ages in the shower on it and because when it's just washed it goes a bit fluffy and is too smooth to tie up easily. But my hair is rather dry anyway at the ends.

I would try both and see which seems best for your hair. If it's too dry, then use a good conditioner.

It's really a personal choice. If your hair starts feeling dried out, you could try shampooing every other day or look for a shampoo that is formulated for everyday use. One I like is Kiss My Face's Whenever shampoo.

shampooing every day is unnecessary.

Every other day is more than often enough.

Once a week could be better.

Shampoo messes with the chemical balance in your hair.
Rinsing works as good as shampooing.

my hair looks and feels like absolute sh!t if I don't wash it everyday.. It is just gross, no other word for it....anyways... I think it depends on your individual hair.... if it is fine going a few days without washing it... go for it... what is best for you is what matters anyways...

Rinsing works as good as shampooing.

In my experience, this isn't true. If you go in the shower with greasy hair and rinse it, you will come out with wet greasy hair - you need shampoo to get rid of the oils. My boyfriend tries this, and he ends up with grim hair still.

Like others said I think it just depends on your hair, I wash my hair almost everyday because I have really annoying hair that goes so gross if I don't, but my sister only washes her hair about twice a week or so and it doesn't get the same way as mine.

It does depend on your individual hair to some extent. Oily, dry, chemically treated, etc. I have heard stylists say it is best to wash your hair no more than every other day (strips the hair, causes damage).

But what I've found through research and experience is that it depends greatly on what your scalp is used to. When you wash your hair you are stripping it of oil. Washing hair frequently thus causes your scalp to over-produce oil to compensate. So if you currently wash your hair each day and skip a couple days, your hair will be super oily. The more you wash, the more frequently you need to. But if you cut back on washing, after a possibly icky adjustment period, you will be fine. I guess finding your balance is best.

If you use styling products (gel, hair spray, "wax") you'll probably have more of a problem washing less because of the buildup/residue.

Currently I wash my hair every 4-5 days. I rinse every day. My hair is not oily or smelly.

Currently, I wash my hair every day because it looks and feels greasy if I don't. I'm a natually oily person.

However, about 12 years ago I used to work on a farm. I'd get grungy every day and only saw the same few people on a daily basis who I didn't feel the need to impress, so I got down to taking a shower (not just washing my hair) once a week. I noticed that after that first day it didn't seem as if my hair got any greasier, but still my hair wasn't that attractive. I also smelled like a goat, but then so did everyone else there, including the goats.

Americans wash much more frequently than they need to obviously, which is primarily why there are so many moisturizers and conditioners on the market here. If you go to France or some other countries you see that most people are a bit greasy and smelly and don't seem to mind. In the US it's the norm to be freshly washed and coiffed, though, so now that I'm back in civilization (as opposed to being on an isolated farm), I wash my hair on a daily basis because it's noticibly greasy-looking if I don't. I do have friends with very dry hair who wash it less often though.

I wash mine everyday. If I don't, it gets greasy. My hair is shiny enough, so when it gets greasy it looks really bad. For a while, I could get away with shampooing every other day, but that didn't last long.

I have to wash my hair every day, it looks yucky if I don't. ^^;;

But I do think it depends on the individual. I have two sisters, and one of them has to wash her hair TWICE a day, whereas the other can get away with every other day or so, sometimes every couple of days, depending on the weather and her activity level.
