I have heard a few rumors that Silk Soy Milk product is owned and manufactured by Dean's milk. Does anyone know if this is valid?
Another dissapointing note is that they have manufactured a specialty soy milk just for Starbucks. Could this mean there is a partnership, or that the coffee giant owns Silk like it does Tazo Tea?

Starbucks doesn't own Silk. Silk is owned by White Wave, which is a division of Dean Foods.

Welcome to the conglomerate food world. I'm okay with buying their product, so long as it stays organic and vegan, even though they strongly push their dairy products in such a way as to contradict what their Silk products say. Buying soy products shows other manufacturers that there is a legitimate market for such products.
That said, I prefer Whole Foods Markets 365 brand of soymilk, which is also organic and vegan. They produce other non-vegan products, too, but I don't know any soymilk produced by a company that produces only vegan products.

Some food companies produce nothing vegan. I say hurray to Dean for giving me foods I love to eat and drink.

Thats true. I only buy it because I enjoy the milk and have tried several others. Not to mention it's carried at my local market and I can get it when I go there for cheaper stuff.

i thought dean bought it because they were losing some of the market to soymilk...
so just as coke started producing bottled water... they supply the two most drunk beverages in the world water and coke
dean supplies soymilk and milk... it gets everyone

This is true. Also, if I remember correctly, I once saw a recipe on a Silk carton that called for some animal product (yogurt or cream possibly).

Yup. That's how the conglomerates work. Buy your way to marketshare.

Well remember there is Silk yogurt, maybe that's what they meant?

Not everyone who drinks soymilk is vegan, many people who are lactose intolerant, health concious or otherwise looking for an alternative also use soymilk. Probably after dozens of marketing studies, it has been concluded that the majority of people who use soymilk use other dairy products in addition. Although I would agree it would be nice to see a dairy free recipe on the carton.

Curiously these recipes started to appear exactly when they were purchased by the dairy company. Maybe I'm just paranoid :sealed:

My Silk carton has a dairy-free recipe on it! For choc chip cookies...and I've seen them for smoothies too....
I remember the yogurt one, I forget what it was for.

Not "paranoid" you're concerned and that's a good thing! :D

HEB supermarkets sell organic soy milk.
they might buy it from silk though, it tastes exactly the same but is $0.50 cheaper.
