I am thinking of getting one for a friend who cooks quite a bit.

Has anyone tried one of these?

From the reviews I have read, it is good. But, apart from costing $15 or so (5x the cost of an oven mitt), it has a couple of problems. One is that it only comes in one size, which can be too large for people with smaller hands. The second is that it really just buys you time; it does not totally prevent burns. You still have to transfer the very hot item from oven or stove to wherever you are putting it fairly quickly. You cannot just hold it or the heat will come through.

I cannot say one or the other, but for the fact their advert is showing on UK terrestial tv....

..."you'll Love it"... (he says) in a presumptuous sales pitch tone of voice.. Bleh!!

I certainly agree that the advertizing is bad, and that's what made me skeptical about it. But the product reviews seem to indicate it is a good product. I was just looking for more information from people who had actually used one.

I was baking bread at my parents' house last week and I used my mom's ove glove. It worked and fit really well (I assume I have average-sized hands for a woman). I didn't hold the bread pan for an inordinate amount of time, but I did hold it a bit longer than usual while I searched for a suitable place to set the pan in an unfamiliar kitchen, and I never felt even a bit of heat transfer to my hand. If I wasn't so strapped right now, I'd probably buy one for myself.
