This is kind of prompted by another cycling thread on a different subject :) Anyhow as I was cylcing home today I remembered why I try to cycle as often as possible...

Today was about as bad as it gets over here, it wasn't as cold as it can sometimes be, and it wasn't as wet as it sometimes is and it wasn't as windy as it sometimes can be. It was however all three: persistant rain, cold and somewhat windy. For the first mile I thought to myself why do I do this, and then as I started to warm up I began to think this is fun, all the days stress started to flow away and I got into a rhythm by the time I got home I was wet through but happy and pretty much chilled out.

So the point, if there is one, is that if I can enjoy today then I can enjoy any day.

Anyone else like to share a cycling commute story?

oh and a note to the moderators ... sorry if this is in the wrong place it kinda fitted here and the veggie patch :)

On Friday I realised how much I enjoy cycling. My bicycle has broken down and I cannot get it fixed until next Friday (my father operates a cycling shop, but I cannot go there until Friday). Really, public transport is no fun at all and walking is well, a tad boring (especially since it's the same road that normally would take me seven minutes to ride).

*Makes a mental note to take better care of his bicycle*

ETA: Don't you just love making great speeds to get rid of all the strains of sitting in too small (in my case) err.. furniture all day? :)

This and the other cycling thread is being put in my favorites....

I cycle like there's no tomorrow sometimes.... but you can enjoy cycling at a
leisurely pace too, and often if you pace yourself you will go further.... Anyhoo,
I cycle a lot, so much that I want to do a tour, nevermind so much a commute! :)

I have a friend who is on a year long cycling tour of Australia, New Zealand and the USA ... i am so jealous although maybe that is partly because I am here and working and well he isn't!

Yep, I know how you feel,,, I however have no such excuse not to be touring myself (other than dietry worries)!.....
NewZealand, wherever.... NZ is a very steep terrain though huh?... Unless,,,
keeping to coastal routes perhaps..

I like to chase "snorfietsen".

A "snorfiets" is a bycicle with an auxilary (little) engine.

yep I chuckle to myself everytime I pass someone on one of those electric bikes, the weight of all those batteries seems to slow them down somewhat :D
