I was wondering if anyone has a blender or food processer that they would recommend (and why)? What do you think would be more useful (a blender or a processer)? I asked my dad for one of them for Christmas, but he wants to know exactly which one that I want, and I don't have a clue what to get.

Well it depends on what you're going to do with it. Are you going to be chopping and slicing and grating stuff? Then get a food processer. Are you going to be pureeing and mincing and pulsing stuff? Then get a blender.
Going to do both? Get one of each! :D
I have a Krups food processor and I LOOOOOVE it. However, it appears Krups doesn't do food processors anymore - it's a Master Pro Plus if you happen to see one.
I have a Cuisinart blender (SmartPower 7 speed) and I LOVE it as well. It is the BEST blender. The things that I like most about it are: It's squarish rather than tapered at the bottom. This helps stuff distribute more evenly. Also, it's glass. Don't get plastic or acrylic, as it scratches and cracks easily.

And look what I found on the Cuisinart site! http://www.cuisinart.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi/en/item.cgi?item_id=BFP-703
There ya go. That would make a great gift...

I have a Black and Decker Power Pro I got as a gift about 3 years ago. I love it, there's nothing it can't handle. I don't bother with blenders, I seem to burn the motors out on them!

I have had a VitaMix for some years. I am not sure if you would call it a blender. It is more like a blender on steroids. I've found its motor to be too powerful, even on the lowest settings, but have slowly learned to use it a bit. I use it a lot for pureeing items, like squash, for soups.
Sis bought me a Cuisinart for Christmas last year. I haven't done too much with it yet, but it is great for grinding pecans and other chopping tasks.

Nothing beats a Vita-mix when it comes to blenders. It does come with a hefty price tag though. You'll realize that it's totally worth it after you make your first smoothie or puree your first soup-the texture is sooo smooth.
For food processors check out Kitchen-Aid and Cuisinart. If you go for a cheaper brand, make sure you get one with a big enough capacity for your needs and a wide feed tube.

OregonAmy: I was going to get that one (the Cuisinart blender and processer), but the blender and processer are only sold separately around here, and the processer part is pretty expensive for what it is...
I decided to just get a blender for now, and then if I use that enough, I might look into getting a food processer (but for now, I just don't have the room for a processer. I decided to get a Cuisinart 18 speed blender. You can see it here: http://www.cuisinart.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi/en/item.cgi?item_id=CB-18 . I think that I'll be happy with it because it seems really simple yet powerful.

I don't know if you would consider it expensive, but my food processor was about $40.00. I don't that's too bad, I've seen ones that are really expensive!
